Default Why did you choose an 8100 series over the 8830?

Please Login to Remove!

Other then the camera option, why did everyone here choose the pearl? I've had my pearl for a little over a month and while I love the phone most of the time, I'm curious of the advantages/disadvantages over the 8830? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael

At the time I thought the 8830 was too much phone for me. I thought the 8100 was a good for my first BB.

If Verizon's new Pearl worked outside of North America, that's what I would have. Since 8830 is the only Verizon Blackberry that works in Europe, I have the 8830.

The 8100 was the first BB with the trackball (pearl). The 8800 series followed because it has a QWERTY keyboard that BB users like and had always had in the past. It has a slightly wider screen but has the trackball (which everybody loves). That's about it (no camera because many businesses don't allow them). The Curve followed the 8800 (smaller but with a QWERT keyboard and camera). The 8800 is big, but it's thinner than the old 8700 "Brickberry" series and has the trackball to boot.

The other reason I ask is because I seem to have a problem using certain Bluetooth headsets. I've literally have tried out 9 headsets that all have either static or static and don't fit well. I bought and returned 3 Jawbones. I really want to love that headset because of noise cancelation, but the 1st one had static, 2nd and 3rd had a bit of static and people actually complained about the backround noise. I current have the Motorola H12, but the noise cancelation is nothing like what they advertise. Not to mention how many times a week I have to pull the battery. I was hoping that the 8830 might be less problematic and work better with Bluetooth devices. I've also replaced my pearl already in hopes of correcting the above, but it didn't do much. Mike

The smaller form factor and the addition of a camera.

Definitely got it for the smaller form factor and the camera. Had an 8830 for many months and didn't really like it that much.

Are you using a Bluetooth headset? If so which one? Mike

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I have both the 8800 and 8100. I use them simultaneously! 8800 is personal (as I do more emailing) and 8100 is work more talking

And I use both to post on BBF via WAP

I think we can safely say that VZN Blackberry phones and BT headsets are not happy together! Such is not the case with Tmob/ATT BB devices and BT headsets. Jawbones get rave reviews there. That's too bad.

Intresting... So maybe I need to change providers then? Is this a known issue? Do you know if it's being worked on, or am I SOL.

Is there a difference between the different color Jawbones? When you say he has no problems does that mean he doesn't get any static and the noise reduction really works as advertised?
