I am getting a PDA. Now I was pretty set on a BB 8830 and then I went into my local store and played around with one. I can't get over how bad the browser is. It opens only half a page in weird layout ( I am sure there is a reason for this but I am new and have no idea). I then moved over to a treo with moble os. The web browsing was MUCH better. So now I am torn.

I am not getting a unit to browse the internet, but I like to have the capability to bring up google maps and such, that is a nice feature.

So why BB over a Treo?

BB will get a improvement to the browser in OS version 4.5 which comes later this year, the browser itself lacks some functionality, however, you can still use 3rd party software like opera if you like that browser better.

well for starters, obviously your in the BB Forums, so that should give you the answer already. anyways it depends on what your really looking for? a bb is meant for ability to handle data and email transfer at a govt level of security. bb's are great devices for the corporate user as well as the individual user.

For Google Maps there's a Google Maps Mobile app for the BB that works well. For other sites, try using Desktop View or Opera Mini.

I know you're saying that you're not buying the device for web browsing but if web browsing is a priority I would seriously recommend the iPhone. Safari's pretty hard to beat at this point. I am really hoping that we'll get a better BB browser soon.

I use Opera and it's great. You do get the whole page, and are able to scroll through and see what you want relativlely quickly

Thanks for the advice guys, this site is so valuable. My question is, WHEN BB releases a new browser will that be an app that can be upgraded on a current model of BB?

In almost every case that I can think of, BB has made an upgrade available in their OS. With that, you might possibly get a newer Web Browser version.

Good Luck
