Having only just got round to calling again, as for some reason they wer closed nye eventhough it was a monday and id wated a couple of minutes listenin to a recording before it said they werent there, i still never managed to get through after half hour today. I think the bb dept has something against me, lol, all im after from them is uma and fixing my mms.

Will try again tomorrow tho, well today now but later, as there email support allways tell me to talk to there bb dept an i cant workout how to dum down the question enough for people who have no experience of bb setup. At this rate il be back at work by th time anythings done so il be able to try registering it with th bes there to get the books now that iv foundout it can be done without sending any emails to it after.

Still no luck. I did get an email suggesting that I'm on the wrong billing system and that a change would put everything right. I called the number that I was given only to be given a conflicting answer.

I went back again and this time I got a stock response that indicated to me that they just hadn't read (or understood) my initial analysis of the problem.

I explained it all again, but it's been a bit quiet now for a couple of days. I don't know whether that's a good or a bad sign. . .

Well O2 have now put me straight in touch with RIM.
As i understand it, O2 don't know why it doesn't work, they haven't stopped it on purpose and when they tested it it worked!
Tradionally they wouldn't offer support on something like this to a BIS customer as the whole point is that RIM provide everything. They do concede that this will come up again and again which is why they have agreed to put the effort in with me.
RIM seem to have no knowledge of why it would or wouldn't work for a particular carrier, i spent 2 hours on the phone Thursday with them going through settings before they eventually conceived that maybe the problem wasn't handset related!
I am due to speak to them again at 3pm today after they have looked into what could be different with O2's setup.
I have some associates on Orange and it works fine for them and of course it seems to work fine in the US.
I'll post back later with their response.

Well after several hours with RIM and some help from o2 we are on the way to an answer, o2 have temp provisioned BES on my Sim and the wifi works, I'm not attached to a BES server but just having it active has sorted it, now they just have to work out what the difference is and sort it on BIS, I'll keep you posted ...

Once this gets resolved will this be updated to all o2 bis users or are we all going to have to keep phoning until we reach the right people.

Well the BES was taken back of my account and the Wifi ceased so the cause has been narrowed down.
The problem may be a provisioning issue at RIM's end as they can allow/deny this for BES/BIS customers, I'm getting trickles of information each day so I'll let you know more when I know

Which explains why my BIS email works via WiFi. Because I have BES on my SIM

I seriously hope this problem does get resumed by o2, the support I've received so far from them (with the exception of one person) has been dreadful.

I have a wifi connection set up, but the icon is grayed out and under manage connections, the wifi icon is that famous yellow icon. The browser is set to wifi, and when I look at a few sites using it the wi-fi the icon remains, with the two blue in/out icons showing. So I'm figuring that the browser seems to be using wifi, but I too would like the other services to use wifi.

On the few attempts where I have tried to ask o2 about this I was told that they don't have anything to do with the wifi and I would need to contact RIM. However they were unable to provide me with a number which is a little frustrating seeing as they are directing you to go elsewhere.

Love the phone, but the service provider is teh suk.

edit: have added a sig, but it's not showing. I'm on BIS and 4.3.0.67

No, O2 need to provision your sim with BES first and that costs!

The plot thickens a little now, I have a friend on Orange who it is working for and i knew he was on BIS but now it turns out that he is paying for BES and not using it.
So i have now reached the conclusion that blackberry's eu servers are not allowing WiFi connections for BIS users, i don't think it's anything to do with O2. I have posed the question to RIM and await there reply!

Good work Tailor; I was a bit miffed when O2 said that I should contact RIM as I felt that it was their responsibility. However you actually did so and seem to be narrowing it down well. If we all eventually benefit from this it will be due to a great deal of persistence from you.

Hey thanks guys, i really feeling the love there!

Just to let you all know the current situation, i've got a fantastic contact at RIM now who calls me everyday with the current status, I have been having a problem with O2 though as i haven't had a static contact in provisioning who could make the changes that RIM have been asking for, it's been a nightmare to be honest, the RIM contact starts work at 8pm GMT and then i have to ring the night staff at O2 who i sure think i'm some sort of nutter.
Well I remembered a senior contact from when i started this in December, called him and he is going to manage this now from the O2 side.
He's organised a second sim for testing and so now i have one on BIS and one on BES, perfect.
I can now send off everything that RIM have asked for so hopefully i'll know more tomorrow.

As a matter of interest Tailor, does it matter (with respect to this issue) what tariff you're on? FWIW I'm on the £15 / month Blackberry-data-only tariff. Just comparing notes really.

Not from what i have seen, i have one handset using a pay as you use data tarrif and the other on the blackberry unlimited. they both have the issue.
I think it's something a little closer to RIM!

woo yay for contacts

I really wish o2 would rethink their Blackberry support and give you an option to go through to a more Blackberry oriented support team, even if they are just first line support who've had specific BB training. It's hugely frustrating to get through to someone who hasn't got a clue about Blackberry's, so you have to hope & pray that what you say to them gets accurately repeated to the BB staff. Who, I was told, don't speak to members of the public.

The following three way conversation that then ensues generally means that your query doesn't get resolved. You just have to keep calling back until you get someone that does understand, or wants to understand.

One guy told me that the o2email.co.uk site was only accessible via your Blackberry, certain versions of IE (but he couldn't tell me which) and under no circumstances could you use Firefox to get at it. And this was after he'd allegedly spoken to the Blackberry support team.

I digress, it's fantastic to hear that someone senior in o2 has taken this up. Things are definitely looking promising.
