I notice that after a few days(not sure of the exact timeframe)it will not give me a gps update-i get to asterisks next to location. It will only work if I do a battery pull. I have tried different settings with the same results. I would then open google maps and it will get a gps position.could this be a software issue?

tateu: have you considered using the US Government provided, paid for by US taxes, NOAA XML feed? This is really where most weather sites get their info anyway.

I realize it doesn't help for non-US people, but for USians it could be great.

I apologize, my post count isn't high enough to post links... add http and www to the front of the links below:

nws.noaa.gov/xml/

The above speaks SOAP, so it may be a little bit too complicated for a handheld to consume quickly.

There's also the NOAA "REST" Web service, also XML based, but AFAIK it's much simpler. It can deliver current conditions, forecasts, and weather watches & warnings. Information on this feed is located here:
weather.gov/forecasts/xml/rest.php

These are basically standard RSS/XML feeds. I don't know what you are currently consuming with BBWeather so I don't know which works better for you. I believe the SOAP stuff first is most powerful, it has the ability to give you information based on GPS coordinates as well, or I think you can feed it a zip code, etc.

Great work bringing BBWeather up to date though. Do you take donations through paypal or anything? I wouldn't be against throwing a few bucks your way as a thank-you.

I am having a similar problem with my Tour. I can use google maps without any problem. But when I start up BBweather, it will upgrade once or twice, then no more (just GPS**). At that point, gps in google maps will no longer work either. I have to do a battery pull to get gps working again in any application.

UPDATE: Upon further review, it doesn't matter which app I start first. I can use BBweather all day with no problems. Then I use Google maps (or BB maps) and GPS will stop working. There doesn't seem to be a problem with using Google maps and BB maps together.

Does the older version (0.85) not work anymore?

Will this new version work in Canada on Bell?

for some reason when I try to set my location, and when I click "ok", nothing happens. It's as if the "okay" button was deactivated or something..? all the other functions work. Anyone else have this problem?

Default Excellent

This is an excellent application and I have tried all of the (free) weather apps.

Thanks for this.

The combo I was looking for and found it ONLY in BBWeather has:
  • changing icon on the home screen and display of conditions and temp when you roll over the icon
  • barometric pressure

It seems, in Canada, for now we have to choose between access to forecasts or GPS functionality. I can wait for GPS; I prefer forecasts (and get weather for business travel from Viigo).

The one issue is I could not find a legible colour to use for the temp superimposed on the conditions icon on the home screen. So I just turned temp off since I get it when I roll over it.

For some reason my @gps location stopped working as of this morning. It throws the error: No location provided. I tried this both on the WiFi network and Edge.

All the other data locations seem to be working right now.

Suggestions?

BBWeather relies upon external servers to retrieve it's data. That is the main reason why there are options for two Weather Servers and two GPS Servers (they convert latitude/longitude into a zip code). The GPS Server geoplugins.com has been down today. Try geonames.org.

If I ever get around to releasing a new version...the version I am running tries to be a little more helpful with error messages and...usually...tells you where in the data download chain that it failed.

Absolutely! The key is to set GPS Type to Autonomous within BBWeather Options.

What's a detailed forecast? Radar is very low on my list of things to do. And my time spent on the to do list is extremely minimal these days.

I believe all of that information can already be extracted from the Hourly Forecast.
