Default Cracked Screen

Please Login to Remove!

I just cracked the screen of my 8700 (only dropped two or three feet). Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, recommendations on how or where to get it replace or repaired. Since I have only had it two weeks I really don't want to have to buy a new full retail price unit. Thanks

Ouch that sucks.. I would start with the store you bought it from then check with RIM to see if they have a repair plan of some sort.

When I called Cingular about repairing my 7290 broken screen, it was between $175-225 depending on whether they fixed it or just replaced it with a refurbished unit.

Maybe you can just return it under the 30day don't ask-don't tell policy and they won't notice the screen enhancement

Buy third party insurance (search this forum), wait a week, then file new claim...?

seattle18, I know you are joking, but please erase your post. Don't want the moderators and owner of this great forum to get into trouble. JT

Am I the only one thinking, "Shoulda been more careful?" Why should a company compensate for a customer's negligence?

I have dropped my cell phone. I closed my Treo 650 in my center console and scrached the front of the earpiece up pretty badly. But I didn't expect Cingular or Palm to replace it for free or cut me a deal. I just should've been more careful.

And yes things should be rugged, but when it comes to damage RIM/Cingular doesn't know if it fell 2 feet or 20. They'd incur huge costs if they set the precendent of replacing damaged units for free or at significantly reduced cost. If I got some dust under my screen and knew that I could get it replaced free, I might drop it outta my car window.

It sucks that your screen cracked, and I can sympathize. But I don't think it makes business sense to replace the units at significantly reducesd costs.

yes but if there ends up being a pattern of cracked screens, i think we should definately be entitled to a replacement once a more rugged version of the phone/screen becomes available. which is why i am hoping you all crack your screens!

I with you, I think I'll keep my 7290, skip the 8700 and wait on the next generation.

Default Trade off

They had to make the screen flush to keep the handheld smaller than the earlier ones. I am sorry your screen cracked. I wish they had insurance for these devices. Good luck with a solution. You didn't per chance pay with a credit card that pays for any issues for any reason.

Let's all run our cars into brick walls and then file a class action lawsuit to get new ones issued to us! Sorry for the smart&&& response but come on, you dropped it I would be more pissed at myself than Cingular. All IMHO.

don't be retarded - phones are supposed to be more rugged than this.. cars aren't meant to slam into brick walls.. come up with a better analogy

Can't agree more. This is an industry thing. Drop your iPOD or laptop and break it, your SOL too.

And by the way, I've dropped mine more than once without it breaking. These things aren't as fragile as some are saying.
