I find the radio to be much more stable on .442. On .423 it would switch from UMA to EDGE to GPRS. Much better on .442.

Hi Phil,

Can you please explain the exact process you followed. I am having the exact same issue as you did. I delete the Vendor.xml, then use the Loader.exe to try to upgrade the OS. However, the loader doesn't seem to recognise the new OS. I also tried to uninstall the Desktop Manager and installed version 5.0.1 as you suggested, still no joy.

Please advise.

Thanks!

I had the exact same issue on a brand new Windows 7 install on one of my Dell notebooks yesterday. I moved to another PC, loaded the software and it installed perfectly. I'm on it now. Seems to be fine - and so far does not have the caller ID issue that .423 had, where it would pickup the caller ID from a previous call, until you actually answered the phone. Can't comment about battery life as some others have reported, but will know in a few days I'm sure.

Hey Anar,

The process that I followed is I deleted ALL Operating Systems (including Blackberry Operating Systems that are not related to the 9700). Delete the Blackberry Desktop Managers and Blackberry Updaters (use your Windows Control Panel to remove everything).

Install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0.1, but do not open.

Install the Blackberry Operating System 5.0.0.726/5.0.0.442

Plug your blackberry into the USB and open/run the Blackberry Desktop Manager.

At which point, I cancelled any synchronization and let it check for application upgrades. The DM automatically detected the new operating system and the upgrade was completed.

NOTE: I tried the same process to update my Blackberry 9000 Bold and that failed so it may have just been pure luck.

Best of luck to you,
--Phil

Battery life on .442 isn't as good as it was on .423 (for me anyway)

Battery life seems about the same for me as on .423. Unplugged around 7 a.m. on Tuesday and was at 30 percent when I went to bed at 11 p.m. last night. Charging every other night works for me. I have a car charger now I just need to get a second wall charger to keep here at the office.

So far, this seems to be running quite nicely, aside from a couple little quirks.

Thanks a lot Phil, but I managed to resolve my issue after reading sevew's thread. For me the problem was due to Windows 7 as it was for him too. Basically this seems to be a Windows 7 issue. Luckily I have another laptop with XP on it, tried it on that and it worked perfectly.

Unfortunately uninstalling all BB software from my first laptop and reinstalling wasn't solving my issue. Few people seem to be having the same issue and I suspect most of them are on Windows 7, so hope this resolves their issues.
