Default Problem seeing media card

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8330 with a 4GB media card installed. The card has been formatted and as far as I can tell, the BB recognizes the card. I was trying to load music onto the phone but get the screen "Media Services Are Not Available" "You need to turn on mass storage mode from the connected BB devise to use this feature..."

Mass storage is turned on. Any suggestions?

Take a look at KB19717-The BlackBerry smartphone is not detected as a USB Mass Storage Device when connected to a computer.

Thanks for the reply. I read through the article, followed instructions and still can't get past the error message. Any other suggestions?

Backing up, are you trying to use mass storage mode to use the microSD card, installed in the BlackBerry, as a drive, and manually copy or move files from the computer to the card? Or are you trying to use Desktop Manager to do a media sync?

I connected to the computer with a USB cable and tried to to a media sync. That's where I get the message about mass storage media... Tried reinstalling the desktop software and re-syncing but no luck. Not sure what to try next.

There seems to be something buggy with the latest Desktop Manager. I get the "...services not available...unknown error..." with video sync. Pictures and music are fine. Same thing on my other computer, and both running WinXP. Searching I found many others reporting this problem. However, the weird thing is if I run the Documents to Go files app on the computer and close it, then video sync works. If I reboot the computer, I get the error until I run the doc's to go files app. Just an example of my situation to make the point that something is not right with Desktop Manager, for some people, and your problem may not have anything directly to do with you.

At any rate, try this. Do not run Desktop Manager for the moment. Connect your BlackBerry with mass storage mode enabled. Does your computer connect and display the microSD card as a drive? Can you drag and drop files to the card?

... Also, by the way, if you are going to use media sync functions in Desktop Manager, do not enable mass storage mode.

Make it convenient for yourself. Set mass storage mode options to "prompt". When you connect and you do not intend to manually use the microSD as a drive, respond "no" when prompted. Desktop Manager media sync does not need mass storage mode enabled.

I don't have an answer for the contradiction between what I say here and what you report in your OP. But I know from experience that media sync works without enabling mass storage mode.

Here's my problem. Blackberry 8520 software v5.0.0.681 with an 8GB media card. I'd loaded the card with songs via my old Windows XP machine and Media Player, and the music plays fine on the phone via Plantronics Bluetooth headphones. When I plug ino my new PC - Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1, Media Player 12.0.7601.17514 doesn't see the card. The phone asks me to enable mass storage - which I do same as previously - but the drive doesn't appear.

However, if I look in Windows Explorer I can see the card - as a drive - and I can access the songs, (double-click them and Media Player runs them).

I'm at a loss to understand this one. Any assistance greatfully received.

Just curious, did you load desktop manager on this PC? I think it loads a driver for the BB...
