Default Garbled calls on UMA at home

Please Login to Remove!

I have had to turn off the WiFi at home despite having a very strong network at home as when my 8900 is connected and the UMA lights up I cannot understand a word callers are saying to me. They hear me fine, but it is SO garbled it is intolerable. I am not using bluetooth anywhere and do not have it turned on. My carrier is TMobile and my home ISP is Time Warner in NYC.

Grateful for any ideas.....

More than likely you do not have enough bandwidth available to you from your ISP or your router is not set to provide QoS to VoIP.

Wirelessly posted (8320 Titanium)

Try changing the channel on the router and see if that helps anything..it has cleared up random issues for me in the past.

The following settings have helped my UMA connection. I am using a Linksys WRT160N router with the DD-WRT v24 firmware loaded:

Wireless > Basic Settings:

Wireless Mode: BG Mixed
Wireless Channel (mine to set 1 as other networks around me were set at 6 or 11; may also choose 3)
Sensitivity Range (ACK Timing): 150 meters (you may need to increase this if you have a larger area)

Wireless > Advanced Settings:

CTS Protection Mode: Disabled
Frame Burst: Disabled
Beacon interval: 55
DTIM Interval: 2
Fragmentation Threshold: 2326 (Set to 2304 if you experience dropped calls)
RTS Threshold: 2327 (Set to 2304 if you experience dropped calls
TX Power: 50
WMM Support: Enable (Don't have to change any other settings under that)

Also if your router doesn't support QoS, make sure you aren't uploading/downloading any big files or torrents or it will garble your UMA. This happens to me all the time since I don't have QoS.

i have an 8320 through work, which has some sort of security on it that they use. i just upgraded from a wrt54g to the wrt160n, and now the 8320 wants me to replace the SSID set up, and it wants me to add a PIN to the wireless access point, which i presume is the wrt160n. would anyone know how to add that PIN or has anyone maybe had this issue before? my wrt160n does not have a password on it at the moment, nor has it ever.

And make sure if you are using Peer to Peer programs that your upload settings are no more than 75 % available bandwidth. So if your upload is 100mb/s than it should not be more than 75mb/s.

Have you tried power cycling your router?
I spent hours with tmo support and then with linksys still no answers, reset the router and the problem that your having was fixed.

Same thing happened with me and a Netgear DG834G with the latest firmware (.14 I believe) -- due to some issue with the firmware it also garbled incoming skype calls. Had trouble connecting the 8900 to it anyway so got a Linksys with clear calls.
