Yes, Sprint's 8703e has GPS. However, it doesn't work with Google maps.

Also, what's really weird is that when I go to the page on Google Services to type my mobile number and receive the text link, I never receive the text!!!! I've tried 15> times and it never sends me the link.
|
I wonder if that is a clue. Do you get text messages from others?

I had the same exact issue and tried many other ways to resolve it. The only way I could get it to install properly was to go to Google Mobile and select the check box for google maps.
It seems that when you go to mobile.google.com, it properly recognizes my BB as an 8703e. When I went to google.com/gmm, it did not. This could be the reason as it could be trying to install the wrong version on your blackberry if it is not recognizing the proper model number.

I did the same thing, downloaded through Google Services from moble.google.com. However, this version is 1.5.2, not 1.5.3. This problem does not exist with 1.5.2.

Can Anyone Confirm 1.5.3 on VERIZON 8703?
i think but am not sure that everyone who says they are getting 1.5.3 on the 8703e Verizon phone is really getting 1.5.2 and they don't realize it. can anyone confirm they definitely have version 1.5.3 on a VERIZON 8703e, not sprint, not alltel, but VERIZON??????? Thanks.

I finally feel your pain. My wife's 8703e from Sprint with Google maps 1.5.3 is now bjehaving as everyone has posted. So far, on this BB, it will not work. I don'''' know what the difference is yet. Still trying to figure that out.

On a related note, I spent the past week trying to remove Google Maps 1.5.2 from my Sprint 8703e. Version 1.5.3 behaved as everyone reported, AND it did not remove version 1.5.2, it only removed the link to remove it from the Advanced > Applications area.
Even a restore from Blackberry Desktop Manager failed to fix this.
Installing Google Services ("version 1.3.0" solved the problem.

im still having issues... i still get the verification error when i install, and then run..
i saw somewhere else that it might be the version that google is pushing, and that their web page might not be recognizing which version of the phone is calling the page...
for those who have gotten this to work on their SPRINT 8703e, do you have a different browser emulation, or internet browser version, that might be helping you get the correct version from google?
Thanks
(link i say this information on:
Google Map error on my BB 8703e - Google Maps for mobile | Google Groups

ok, im finding a bit more information...
when i try to get the application from:
Google Maps
the download app link is: http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.5....d_MIDP2_L1.jad
i am guessing this is not the correct version for the RIM 8703e on Sprint
Can anyone who has gotten 1.5.3 on an 8703e through google.com/gmm tell me what the download link is when they download the application?
Thanks!
Geoff

I did that yesterday and it works! That's the solution for the 8703e that won't let you install 1.5.3.

In case people are still having trouble- going to Google Mobile and install google services. you can uncheck the options that you dont want to install. this install Google Maps version 1.5.2 but its a working version.
there is a flaw with version 1.5.3 still.
for now- this works.

yah, that installs 1.5.2, which is nice, but i cant get my GPS to connect with it, it seems to only allow an external bluetooth GPS
anyone get either 1.5.3 or 1.5.2 with GPS working on a SPRINT 8703e?

Fix that worked for me
I have a company owned device and could not access Google maps. The icon just looked weird and the program would never load. I went to Google Maps and downloaded the link for IT- Blackberry Enterprise Server. After I unzipped the file and used desktop manager to load the file gmm_152.alx Google maps started working great. Maybe this will help some of you out there.

Okay Geoff, I am in the same position. I now have google maps and google search, but it doesn't appear to have a function that allows me to "find" or "locate" where I am using the GPS which this phone supposedly has. (I too am on Sprint). I've turned my location based services on, so I'm guessing that this version of google does not have GPS? Anyone?

I am have the same issue I get get the 1.3.0 maps to work fine but with no gps
when I try to load the goo maps 1.5.3 I have the black icon like dos prompt and when I launch it is just a white screen and the doanload arrows are flickering nothing happens.\
I also notice if you do this you install the 1.3.0 google services then the 1.5.3 from Google Maps you will get the dos prompt icon but when you do a hard reboot by taking battery out the 1.5.3 is not there anymore kinda of wierd

Google maps does not work with the internal GPS of the 8703e. Maybe a future version, but not yet.

OK....can't really figure something out....not much info on the goole site that I can find....but....
What's the differences between Version 1.4.4 (which I have) and 1.5.2or3?
And is it really worth the upgrade?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)
I can't remember that far back. Does that version show traffic?

Yep....traffic.....sattelite....saving favorites.....instant info on a business you're getting directions to.....
And it's not that far back.....I downloaded it a few months ago.
From what I can tell, i can't see any differences.....am I missing something?
Oh.....and I've never had any issues with it on a 8703e from Verizon on a BES.

If it works then keep using it. It sounds like the differences aren't all that great. It seems like a long time to me because I was upgrading every time a new version appeared. I can't remember 1.44.
