Default OS: 8100 4.5.0.306/4.5.0.182 (Multilanguage + EastAsia)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.306 (Multilanguage + East Asia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.306
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.182
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.106
* File name (Multilanguage): 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel306_PL2.7.0.106_A4.5.0.182_AT_am p_T.exe
(East Asia): 8100EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel306_PL2.7.0.106_A4.5.0.18 2_AT_amp_T.exe
* File size: 93.65MB (Multilanguage) 89.68MB (EastAsia)

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4
This download is from AT&T but will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model BB. (Not 8110, 8120 or 8130)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Administrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Just a quick note. If you are upgrading from the 181 OS from Globul previously posted, it will warn you that you are "downgrading". That's because the platform on the 181 build was 2.7.0.108. The platform on this 182 build is 2.7.0.106.

Not sure why that's the case, but I upgraded anyway (or was that "downgraded"), and everything seems to work fine so far.

Only thing of note so far... the thumbnail preview of loaded images seems to take only about 30 seconds to 1 full minute before showing them instead of the more normal 2-3 full minutes. That's after a full re-boot. Once they've loaded, it doesn't take as long for the thumbnails to display any subsequent time you look at them.

DEAR MODS,

One tip possibly to add within the instructions for upgrading, is to have your USB cable directly connected to the PC, rather than via a hub or some other indirect way. For 3 years I had the cable plugged into my monitor (which had a few extra USB ports on it), which in turn was plugged into the PC. I'd probably done 10 upgrades that way, without a single problem.

Then with the last update a few months ago, I got a 507 error, and it took me a lot of grief and pain to find out eventually that the problem was the cable wasn't connected directly to the PC.

Hope it saves someone else the pain.

PS After upgrade, it still took a couple of minutes to view pic thumbnails when I clicked view pictures, just like before upgrade. This is after 2 cold boots too...

That doesn't work that way, the 90mb is like an application that you install in your computer and that application contains the software that is going to be install on your BB, so the actual software for your bb is like 40mb or less and only can be install in the phone memory (64mb).
