Default Battery drain

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, I'm a new BlackBerry user, I just got my Pearl 8130 last week end and I love it so far.

I have a question though. The battery seems to drain pretty quickly. I admit I played around with it quite a lot (I am a gadget geek after all), but still some of this behavior does not seem normal. The battery was at 40% last night before I went to sleep, and this morning it was at 15%. What gives? I don't have any settings in my browser to "pull content" automatically or anything.

And another thing: let's say I'm using this thing pretty often (which I will for a few weeks, while it's new - it's my first BB, and did I mention I love it?). Can I charge the battery overnight, every night, even if it's at 40-50%, or should I be worried about the "battery memory effect" and let it drain almost completely between charges?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to browsing through the forum, learning new things about my new toy!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Charge your BB at anytime! It will be fine

CDMA devices use more power than GSM! What signal strength do you have the lower the more power being used!

Also are you leaving any apps open?

From homescreen press berry/menu button the select switch task how many icons? There are 4 or 5 that always run the rest are extra and running in background and using power!

Thanks, that's a big relief, I will charge it over night every night then, regardless of the battery level.

I only have running the apps that will not go away:
- Call log
- BB messenger - is there a way I can close this?
- Browser - is there a way I can close this or does it have to be on?
- Messages
- Home

Those are the base five that you cannot close. It seem strange that it dropped so much over night. Since you have nothing else running the only thing I can guess is if you are in a low coverage area where service drifts in and out it will cause the battery to drain because the phone will go into full broadcast mode attempting to establish a connection. With that said, just charge it every night and top it off when you get a chance or if you are too low for your next outing.
