Default OS: 8100 4.5.0.254/4.5.0.161 (EastAsia & English)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.254 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.254
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.161
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.105
* File name: 8100EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel254_PL2.7.0.105_A4.5.0.16 1_Hutchison.exe
* File size: 90.04MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2BAA6EBC8B872D

This download is from Hutchison but will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model BB. (Not 8110, 8120 or 8130)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hutchison releases 4.5.0.161 for 8100, 8110, 8120, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8800 and 8820.

Pretty nice of them to do that, they seem to always be on the cutting edge of the latest OS releases.

Just upgraded to this OS. So far works nice and boots fast. I used JLCmder to do a wipe and then a reset to factory. First time i do the latter and so far i like the results. I used the command prompt :

JavaLoader.exe -u wipe
JavaLoader.exe -u cleareventlog
JavaLoader.exe -u resettofactory

Free memory after install was 33MB. I did customize the installation to only the necessary items.

The 4.5.0.81 is at the top with .254, .174 and .108 below it. My assumption was the .81 would be the newest one then. Apparently a mistake, as I forgot that with software a .254 is higher then .81 even though mathematically it isn't.

Let me leave my review on this:

It's pretty stable, slightly moreso than the last version, but this is still by no means the "perfect" build.
Remember to activate your phone with the Blackberry servers so it resyncs all your email accounts with your phone.

The good:
-Things seem to populate quicker, such as the list of pictures with thumbnail previews, the menu, etc.
-Still hangs when "too much is going on", but not as long as the last OS.

The bad:
-Still takes just over four minutes to fully restart, which is absolutely unacceptable. Yes, I timed it...
-STILL hangs. Constantly.

Other than that, everything is the exact same as the last OS. If they can fix the issue with the CONSTANT hanging and incredibly long hard reboot time, they would have a fully functional OS and great working OS.

More good:
-After testing the phone heavily, and pulling the battery a few times, I noticed that the phone does not hang on apps it used to have problems with, and it seems to be loading application data and screens quicker than the last build.

More bad:
-When it does freeze up for more than a few seconds, it usually gives the hourglass, to the point you'd rather pull the battery and wait for the 4 minute reboot, rather than wait to see if the phone recovers.
-Sometimes when people call, and you answer, it will continue to show the screen it shows before you answer, as if the phone call did not yet connect... For example, if someone is calling me and I look to see who it is, then press the answer button, I'm used to looking at it to make sure it answers correctly, and seeing the visual cue of the call timer beginning. However, while the screen is still prompting you to answer (after you already did) the person on the other end can already hear you. This call timer delay has happened for up to 10 seconds.
