I have had a blackberry for a long time now and I know it is going to be so hard to give it up. I like to stay in touch with friends while I am out of town via email to email but I was wondering is there anyway to do this but using text message to email? I was wondering how it worked I never tried it but this way I wouldnt need the unlimited data and can use any phone. Any suggestions?
You can't send a text message to an email address from your BB. You need a data plan for that. Others can send you an email that will arrive on your BB as a text message.
ok so basically even if i got say a razr phone i cannot send SMS message to their email accounts? :(
Actually is there a program that I can use gmail instant messanger with that will use SMS ? Assuming I am using say a phone like a razr? Sorry to be a pain!

No. Not without a data plan. You can only send SMS to another cell number. If you have a data plan you can send an email that will show up as a text on another's Razr

But then the recipient won't be able to reply to the "email converted to text" right?
No, They user will be able to read the "email to text" they just cannot reply to it. For example if you send a message to they will receive it and be able to read it. Not really sure how the encryption works for this. The recipient will not be able to reply.
I guess I can always use AIM right? I know it wont be email or gtalk (like I would rather) but AIM has SMS if I remember correctly? So I would just have to get all their AIM SNs
this doesnt sound right. i switched from a motorola slvr, and i was able to send txt messages to email addresses with no problems. it seems like if you buy a bb, you HAVE to get the data plan to send to email addresses? just doesnt sound right. anyone else have any resolutions?
