Default Need help with BES move

Please Login to Remove!

We have an existing BES 4.1.0.38 running on an old server, which we want to move to a new server, by performing a Knife-edge cutover, based on BB KB10278.

I have followed all the tasks indicated in the article, including KB03112, How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server.

Here is where I have the problem. On the new server, which is a DC, I have to first install BES 3.6.2, which was the original version this company started with. Then, I have an upgrade CD for BES 4.1. When I try to run the upgrade, it fails at the User Migration stage. I will copy part of the UserMigration.log for reference.

Is there something I am missing?

Does your old BES server and the new server have the same name? If you are using the same DB as the old BES server it must have the same name. I am assuming that you don't have TSupport with RIM?

Yes, I have tried to use the same name as the old BES. I have tried to follow KB10278, How to perform a knife-edge cutover for BES software versions 4.0 and 4.1. I think the issue is when I am trying to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to the new server, KB03112.

I just started at this new company, and this project had been put on hold for quite sometime. I have been a BlackBerry admin for several years, but, never had to perform this type of move/upgrade.

The company does not currently have TSupport with RIM.

Hi Ron,
I have plans to do a knife-edge cutover.
If you don't mind me asking....why was it failing and
what did you do to fix it?

Well, there must have been something done incorrectly, as we were also using an outside source to assist with this.

I simply undid what was done, and followed the steps one by one, and was successful. The two issues I faced after getting 4.1 on the new server is:

1. Had to remove and add 5 users, who had the original 3.6 licenses. Once I removed them from the server, wiped their devices, added them back, and ran Enterprise Activation, they were up and running.

2. Had a problem with MDS, which I recently discovered cannot be used if you are running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, so, I will need to uninstall this, as we are not using it.
