Send email to handheld ONLY on command, Not Automatically (Limit Data Transfers)

I have a BES user that is traveling and needs to limit data transfers. She wants to be able to reconcile or receive ONLY email (no calendar, etc.) on command, not automatically. She needs the phone and text messaging on all the time. I started by having her turn wireless sync OFF for the Calendar, Address Book, Tasks, and MemoPad. Now I am unsure about the email stopping automatically but rather manually part...Please advise.
as long as she doesnt read the email its a very small amount of data transfer. only 2kb per email. But what sferical said will work. or she can just delete the email service books as well.

... and its actually only 1KB of data that goes over the wire as its compressed.
When I was overseas last year, I didn't get a special roaming or int'l plan, so I wanted to limit data usage, yet have phone and sms capability.
What I did was, go to Options, Mobile Network, and set Data Services to Off (or Off When Roaming). What will do is change the EDGE indicator to edge (lowercase).
While in this state, I received no email, did not get newsfeed or weather updates, etc., and needless to say, I refrained from OTA application installs and such.
Every few days, when I couldn't stand it any longer, I would turn Mobile Network back on. My email would flood in, I would get my news/weather updates, and then I would shut Mobile Network back off. I would do all email replies "offline" (rather, just while not connected) and if it was urgent, I would turn the Mobile Network back on for a few minutes so that the replies could go out.
Reflecting on this, it probably did not save a LOT of data, since I did get all my emails that I would have had I left the Mobile Network on. But it did minimize weather and news updates that occur throughout the day without my having to go change the settings in each application and stuff.
The beauty of it was that it was just one setting, and is easy enough to test just by trying it out before leaving on the trip. If email stops while it's turned off, is it mission accomplished?

I have experienced similar problems myself. Whilst overseas, I wanted to continue being able to access data, but not receive email (I was on vacation, not business). Usually, when at home I switch the BB to not send Emails to Handheld - but whilst overseas, this did not work - the email kept coming... I didn't want to turn of data since I wanted to keep up with news, sports etc. from home.
