Still debating on trading the 8820 for the 8310 and was wanting to find out if anyone is seeing dust under the screen of the 8310 as we saw on the 8300. That would be the deal breaker for me. My last day is today

I picked up a Titainium today and am putting my 8820 in the drawer for a few weeks. I am betting the dust problem has not been fixed as I have the same slight flex beside the screen on the right side.

That70sGADawg, did you find yours at a local store? I have not been able to find a store that has any 8310's yet. I am in the Atl area as well and a Big Dawg fan as well. My 8300, I just pop off cover enough to get air can nozzel inside and give a couple shots of air and all is well. The dust will not keep me away from the 8310 if I can figure out a way to use GPS without paying an additional $10 a month.

I think he is talking about TeleNav -- they charge a monthly service fee of $9.95.

ah yeah, that would make sense.

steveheslin, you don't need to run TeleNav to use the GPS with blackberry or google maps. need a good data plan to handle all the map downloading though.

Well, I went to the At&t store to trade the 8820 for the 8310, but after holding both in my hands for no less than 20 minutes, I decided to keep the 8820. My wife does have the 8310, but I haven't had a chance to do a close comparison. So after my close study of both, I really think the build quality is much better on the 8820. The 8310 just felt like a plastic toy. Don't get me wrong, I like the looks of the 8310 and my wife seems to really like hers, but the 8820 just felt more sturdy in my hands. Kind of a shame because I never use the WiFi like I thought I would and I would have probably used the camera on the 8310. However, I just didn't like the feel compared to the 8820. And as I've said before, I guess that's why it costs $100 more.

88xx series will definately feel heavier because it is, it has an extended battery standard. In actual use I have found them both to be equally sturdy with the 83xx series having fewer creaks and less flexing despite its lighter weight.

Use Nav4all as a gps software. It is free and works very well.

I'm waiting for a while to see what the reports look like. It's pretty new on AT&T, so there are relatively few users here who have the 8310 yet. So hopefully around the first part of December we'll see more reports and longer-term reports.

I have yet to swap out my 8300 because I have a $12 Invisible Shield on it. If not for that, and then getting a new shield on a replacement and hoping it worked I would have already swapped it out. I'm just concerned with in addition to the hassle of swapping out the devices, I have to pay $15 each time I try a new one out.

And maybe in a month or so a new Pearl will be out and I can give that a shot. I've been thinking about buying a used Pearl to play with but would rather have the updated version.

I find this interesting, because after also holding both in my hands I came to the exact opposite conclusion.

I really like the look of the 88xx series in the all black casing (which can be added later), and IMHO, it's the most attractive looking of all the BlackBerries. But, when I type on it it creaks. I realize that this is because the back panel is divided into an upper half and lower half with the battery latch separating the two accross the middle. But still, I got the feeling/impression that the 88xx series wasn't very sturdy at all because of the feel and sound of the creaking.

The Curve is very solid, doesn't creak whatsoever, and just feels well-built. Thus far I haven't had a lint-under-screen issue, but I'm quite impressed with my (8310) Curve's form factor as far as sturdiness, size, ease-of-use, and comfort. I much prefer the feel of the rubberized sides on the Curve, even if the silver sides/rails on the 88xx does look nicer IMHO.

Both are great devices, and if you're more comfortable with your 88xx, then you definitely made the right decision. Personally, I'm happy with my 83xx decision as well.

Being the blackberry admin for my firm I come across many 8800s curves etc. You would not believe how many have dust under the screen. The 8800s have squeaky sides also. Blackberrys are just not built like the 7290s and earlier. I love the quaility feel of the iphone.

Well, I'm a month into my 8820 and so far, no creaks. The sides seem to be on very tight, unlike the 8800's I've felt in the past. But only time will tell. I can live with the creaks better than the dust. Also, my wife dropped her nice clean shiney red 8310 on the concrete today and she now has 2 nice scratches on the right side.

I got mine at the Mall of Ga store in Buford (on Hwy 20) last week. Call around, and have the store hold it until you get there- they are out there!
