Question tmo sim into att's curve questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have T-Mobile 8700g, that 2 year contract will end this August. My friend has AT&T 8310 curve, he is getting a new at&t 8310 curve from his employer...his current curve contract has ended a while ago because he paid full price.

He wants to give me his 3 month old curve...my question is can I take out SIM card from my T-Mobile 8700g and put into at&t curve?

Thanks,
Tom

Ask him if he can get AT&T to unlock the device for you. If he can't you will need to pay a 3rd party unlocking service to get you an unlock code.

Let's say after it is unlocked....will it work if I put tmo sim card in there? will it be any problem? Will I be able to retain 700 text messages a month...unlimited data? same phone number?

Yes. Once the device is unlocked you can put any sim card in there. It will use whatever is on your account on that sim card.

Awesome!

Last thing...does that mean I have to cancel my monthly insurance of $5.99 for 8700g since it won't replace my curve if I switch the sim card?

Lastly about how much is the average unlocking service? If AT&T can unlock it, how much does att unlock it?

Thanks again!

You won't need the insurance since it won't apply to the 8310.

Unlocking should cost between $15-$25. Your friend should be able to get an unlock code for the phone for free.

Thanks...As soon as he gets new curve from his employer and he'll go to at&t store to get it unlocked, if it works then he'll give to me and I'll pop in tmo's sim card.

8310 has GPS and camera. can't wait to try that!

Not sure the AT&T store will be able to do it. He'll likely need to call AT&T support on the phone to get it unlocked. Worth a try, though.

I'll tell him to try at&t support first and see what happens. Thanks again!

Make sure your friend doesn't tell AT&T that he wants it unlocked because he's going to give it to you. Have him tell them he's traveling out of the country and wants to use his phone while overseas.

He's not cancelling service on the phone or the line. He's simply getting a new device and putting his sim card in it. They don't care which device you're using at the time. If he's still an AT&T customer they will unlock the device for him. If he's on a corporate plan, he could have difficulty getting support without the proper admin priviliges...just depends on his plan.

Ok, I guess asking at&t is out of question...

No, where do he or I get this 8310 unlocking service (good one, trust them to unlock for the lowest possible price?)

How does unlocking service work? how long does it take? etc etc etc

Thanks!
