Hi

I have a Notes server in my organisation. I plan to install a BES server for Notes on a new server.

Should i intall Notes server on this new server (and need a new licence)?
If yes, what is the interaction between those two Notes server ?

If so could i directly install BES on my existing notes server ?



I have allready install BES for exchange in another company and i should not buy a new exchange licence the only i need was to instlla the console admin for exchange. Isn't it the same for Notes ?

It is required that Domino Server be installed on your BES server. So you can install it on an existing server without needing another license. Or place it on a seperate server with domino (License) and replicate the mail.nsf files needed to add security, this also allows BES upgrades and changes without conflicting with normal users (helpful if you run full notes databases).

To make clearer, the BES is an add-in task for a Domino server. It is recommended to be installed on an existing Domino server which is not your mail server. Why? Imagine BES crashed bringing down the Domino server, your mail server will be brought down and your boss will be knocking on your door the next minute...

freeloader why are you replicating the user's mail files? We run a separate bes server, the only thing that replicates is the server's names.nsf, as the bes is in the same domain as the mail server. Oh and some system db's replicate, but certainly no mail files.

I would suggest not to install BES on your Main domino server. However, The BES does need domino installed on the same machine as you are installing BES.

Security reasons. My setup has the BES box between 2 firewalls. The "important" people have access to their mail externally via a replicated NSF.
