True but you can do it by accident too, it's really a very poor oversight. I hope someone from RIM is reading this and adds this fix into the new build (along with allowing you to edit auto text from the SMS field too like you used to be able to!)
Oh without a doubt. I was just pointing out that it does seem to be something the user will get used to. That said, one really shouldn't have to. I suppose I can remotely understand RIM's logic since hitting the back key no longer functions as it used to by deleting the entire field, but there has to be a better way to implement this. At the very least make it consistent in all messaging apps.

This is doing my head in!!!
I'll be near the end of a SMS text then suddenly everything will just disappear!
Quickly found out what was causing it. I'll be in the middle of typing and want to delete a character, but because of the speed of my typing, my finger will be on the Alt key by mistake.

I never use Alt-Delete. Is there a way to disable this?
It really is getting very frustrating!

Cheers!

I just found this also happens when pressing SHIFT, then DEL. ...and it's not just SHIFT+DEL, pressed individually will still erase the entire composed message. Really really aggravating. :(

Nice! I downloaded .415 this morning but have yet to install it. That will definitely push me to do so.

I love you haha thanks for pointing out the new OS! Will try tomorrow AM. Thanks again then we can finally type stress free.....

My next gripe is the auto text feature, you can't use CAPS in the " replace the following with..." Section a bit annoying in this version as I use a lot of acros with my work. And this was possible on previous versions...will try new build before posting a new thread on this. Thanks

Default Alt Delete Problems

I totally agree -- the lack of consistency AND the huge downside of the mistake is a total pain in the a** . Been using BBy forever and to introduce this change for just SMS is uber lame. Very glad to hear it's being fixed in OS upgrade.

I wish you could toggle this feature on and off. I got use to it and I'd like to be able to erase the entire line with just a quick press.

It did
I plan on upgrading to .421 tomorrow. Hopefully the fix is present in that release as well. Will report back.

Great ... thanks for letting me know. I agree, it's kind of cool to be able to delete all when you want to, but I just found it got me paranoid I was going to accidentally delete everything in other functions like email and memopad, as well. Wonder when T-Mo will be getting the upgrade?
