I'm running OS .83. Mine rebooted itself today after I had it tethered to my laptop for a couple of hours. I picked it up and looked at the screen and the screen looked like it was white with little blue and red specks all over it. I pressed one of the buttons (don't remember which), and it dropped my Internet connection and rebooted itself.

Exclamation New Replacement

After trying every possible thing that I could think of to convince myself that it wasn't a hardware error, I finally gave in and returned my phone for a replacement.

The first replacement was iffy. the screen was flickering constantly. The representative claimed that it was just for the first 30 mins and then it would go back to normal, but I didn't buy that. My first storm never flickered on matter how low the battery life was, even at the initial boot up out of the box.

So I asked for another one. This one flickered too, but it stopped after about a minute. I inserted my old memory card and tried playing an episode of the simpsons which usually resulted in a freeze, or a crash. and it froze.

I then tried a UFC fight clip off the memory chip which resulted in a reboot with the old phone. The replacement did not reboot.

It could be the memory chip, it could be the phone, it could be both. I didn't take my old memory chip with the new replacement, just in case.

One of the reps also said that formatting the memory chip solves a lot of problems as well, didn't try that with my first Storm but aw well.

I took pictures of the serials on my first Storm box, and my replacement box.

I'll be posting soon.

Got my replacement today, and in 2 hours of turning it on, it turned off 4 times and rebooted itself 2-3 times. I called telesales back and asked them to take this POS back and give me a 8330 instead. So on Wednesday I will be back to Blackberry stability.

Exclamation New replacement ok!

Well after using my replaced storm, it has no crashed on OS .76

I've done calls, with IM's in the background, music, done it all. no crash. browing is good too. it slows down at times, but it is stable. Everything that crashed my first Storm has not crashed my replaced storm.

I attatch a picture the BAD BATCH serials placed on the box of my FIRST defective storm:

DO NOT GET THIS BATCH! IT IS TERRIBLE! IT REBOOTS AND THE BATTERY LIFE IS CRAP AND EVERYTHING!!!

The new batch came in to Canada on Dec. 22, 2008. I didn't get the serials, but i'll post the serials in my replaced storm soon.

Do NOT get the batch placed Below!!

I am sorry to hear that your replacement did not workout. I encourage you to keep trying to get a working storm, because no phone is as wicked as the storm.

The storm is the perfect elite fusion of business features along with user friendly multi-media with kickass battery life and rock solid stability.

No phone beats the storm. Hail BlackBerry!

Nah, I'll just be happy with my 8330 that arrives tomorrow. I really tried to like the storm but the replacement was just horrible and I did not want to wait until I was finally sent a good working device.

I wouldn't call the stability "rock solid" have you been reading this forum the past few weeks?

Do you think by doing a *228 option 2 after upgrade to .83 makes any difference in the phones performance or reliability?

What is a *228 option?

About the stability:

I said it's rock solid because I tested my replacement under lots of multitasking and extreme load and it has no crashed or froze. it slows down at times, but that's it, despite what the forum has been saying the past few weeks (yes I have been reading it).

It's just a bad batch of storms. I am now trying out .83 on the replacement, so far so good.

no idea. I would ask your service provider for the batch release date. The last batch that hit Canada was dec. 22 might be the same for the states too.

Is it coming in the mail?

When I got mine at Telus, I stayed there to test it out. Things you should test it on so you know it won't crash or reboot would to play a PC video format on the device memory, and then the memory card.

That uses a lot of rendering power, and heats up the device. That always crashed my last Storm, my new one has been flawless so far.

Got the replacement on Wednesday...everything is fine so far. Came with .75 software. I think I will hold off upgrading until the next release comes out. I have installed GMail Mobile and Google Maps, we'll see how that goes.

Questions?
