Default Nextel 7520 ::Your Opinions::

Please Login to Remove!

I already did a search and didnt come up with anything really. I wanted to know if anyone here has used this phone. I am currently using a 7280 for my personal phone, and I know the differences spec wise (and size wise uggg). I wanted to hear any feedback about this phone... and issues I might run into and any fixes that need to be made.

I have used and have many users who have/had used the 7520. For the most part it is a solid device, especially after upgrading to the latest OS. The size is a factor, though.

If you're switching, make sure Nextel works where you live/work/commute or you won't be happy with it.....no matter how 'good' it is.

I have the 7520 currently, and have had it for about 1 and a half years. It is a VERY solid device. Mine has hit the pavement more times than I care to admit, quite HARD a few times :/. It is a great device, but browsing the internet for anything (even phone number lookups) can be QUITE slowwwww. Very slow in fact. Just keep that in mind.

I agree with Milkman. I had a couple of 7520's. Mine also hit the floor a few times too many. Only had to replace them when the OS crashed. Like my 7100I, the internet is PAINFULLY slow.

Have had a 7520 for about a year & a half and have been able to play with some of the 7100 & 8700 series devices.

As already pointed out, browsing is slow, and the screen's not the greatest, but I prefer it over the other models. It's been pretty bullet-proof for me and I've found that you can drop it really hard & it takes the punishment with no problem.

If you get it, make sure you've got the latest OS and if you do a lot of surfing, get the extended batt.

Ciao

Thank you guys for you imput. Without it I wouldent have known how durable it is. I wont be really surfing the net much, but it does sync to our BB server. I will never use the 2 way, but some of our other users will. I only like the double memory and bluetooth. Thats another thing...the blutooth work pretty well with this device? I will also make sure to upgrade the OS....
::OFF TOPIC:: can I upgrade the OS through BB manager on the BES server or via the web? I dont want to use the BB desktop manager because it screws everything up.

Bluetooth has been fine for me.

To my knowledge, the only way to update the OS is through the Desktop Manager. Why do you say it screws everything up? I use mine all the time, albeit without being hooked to a BES.

The 7250 is the sister model of the 7520. To my knowledge they are identical except the 7520 is made to work on the Nextel network (iDen) so it has an antenna, and the 2-way button on the top. The 7250 is a CDMA phone, and does not have 2-way capabilities.

Then if you are talking about the 7520, it is an Iden phone (not CDMA), and the PTT button is on the top edge of the phone.

Been using the Nextel Blackberrys all the way back to the 6510, then 7510 and the day the 7520 came out I started using it. Quite rugged. I have left the 7520 for the 8700 and 7130 and a couple or other pretty faces and have always come back. Put a HD battery in it and you can use it for darn near 2.5 days with bluetooth turned on.

The 7520 has the best keyboard of them all!

I've been using the 7520 for a few years now. The first couple I had were refurbs and crashed within months. This latest one I had has been through hell and back and is still rockin'. I have friends on Cingular with 7250's and 8700's. 7520 is by far my most favorite BB.

Within each contact entry on the 7520, there should be a direct connect ID field where you can enter the numer & asterix string assigned to the device. Once that is populated, you can highlight the contact in the address book and scroll click to get the drop down menu.

Now In addition to the usual email, PIN, or call contact options there should now also be an Alert contact that will initiate the direct connect walkie talkie call.

Only bad thing I've seen is that syncing with my Lotus Notes, since there is no field for DC ID in the Notes personal address book, the DCID field contents tend to vanish frequently, so I always keep a separate list to rebuild it and sync my contacts very rarely.

And more so, I've just gotten used to using BBerryMessenger to Instant Message them instead of using the Direct connect walkie talkie feature.

Whenever I want to do a phone number lookup, I just use Berry411, much less painful.

Is it possible to enter a direct connect id in speed dial? If not, what is the quickest way to direct connect (7520) to someone that you talk to often?
