Question Antialiasing and Battery life

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all. I have the 8700g with T-mo and I wasondering if anyone has any information about whether its better to have antialiasing on or off and if it's on, will it have any affect on battery life?

I've looked for other posts on this, but there was only one other and it wasn't too fantastic.

Thanks.

Wirelessly posted (7130e: BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

I don't think that a font style will do anything on the battery

Iv noticed on my 7100 that enabeling AA does slow it down slightly so it must take a little more power, therefore run the batteries slightly faster, but i cant imagine it doing much.

Does antialiasing have an effect on anything else on the BB or just on the font? Is there any super benefit of running it?

Thanks for your responses.

I am quite sure that it only affects fonts. That is why it is immediately below your font, size and bold/undeline/italic selections in Options, Screen/Keyboard.

I personally find that it substantially improves the viewing of BBCasual BOLD 10 (that being my preferred font...)

Yes it would decrease, but not substantially..I get 5 days standby...antialiasing smooths out the edges...therefore uses more of the processor, but again..I dont think it will significantly decrease it like Blutooth would

I don't think the BB natively supports antiasing (font soothing) natively by processing an existing font (as Windows or even PocketPC does) and thus chewing up a few processor cycles in the process. For BB's it's actually a different font 'preprocessed' with antialiasing. So it 'costs' an extra font being installed in the device. If I recall correctly it's noted in the theme builder application notes.

So no, it wouldn't affect battery life. Just the flash space taken up by the extra antialiased font version. I think the 'antialias' option for some fonts is just a 'smoke and mirrors' way of selecting a different version of the 'same' font.

It seams to run a little slower on my 7100 with AA so in some way it must be using more processing power.
