Default why would RIM get rid of keyboard lock?!

Please Login to Remove!

Just wondering... and I know this has been discussed in other threads, but why the hell would RIM get rid of keyboard lock and the "* + send" function to unlock? I know you can do it with a password, but have there been any actual reasons for this change?

For years, it's been "*+send" to unlock -- and now I have to get used to clicking the lock/unlock button on the top?

Is there any way to get this feature back? I'm honestly contemplating going back to the original out-of-box AT&T OS...

im with you on this. i dont like the lock button on top. it is easily pressed in my pocket and unlocked making the lock feature pointless. having to hit a 2 key combo prevented accidental unlocking. i think the whole change is a stupid idea and i dont blame you for wanting an old OS. and why cant they just give us the option to disable the lock button all together? i have considered taking the phone apart and destroying the button its self.

I'm on 5.0.0.593. I'll have to give .062 a shot next time I'm near a computer.

On .714 the left top left button locks the keyboard and turns the screen off. Any keypress will turn on the screen and present a pop-up to hit the lock button to unlock the keyboard.

.602 seems to be an "older" version of 5.0... Home screen lookcs different, bbm is older, etc. What are the differences between the older 5.0's and the newer 5.0's?

Thanks!

If any key unlocks the keyboard how is that a keyboard lock. normal use would require a multiple key input to re-activate and keep the keypad from making dial errors or other input mistakes.

Think of it more as a "sleep" mode than a lock. True lock still requires a password to unlock it. Oh, and "k" from the home screen still locks it.

Latest official "AT&T" Version.

P.S. My remedy to all this is " Beiks Keyboard Locker ". It even lets you assign any Keyboard key to unlock and comes preloaded with the " * + send " key combo. You can use it in any 5.0 build.
Thanks Beiks.

Thanks Beiks.
Ya, I use Beiks too. its real good. After inadvertently dialing the same person five or six times by accident, i got beiks and set it to lock after 3 minutes of inactivity. Its much better now.

I don't usually put my phone in my pocket, but rather in its little holster on my belt , so I don't have the issue of accidently unlocking it.
