Default I just bust a 7230!

Guy's please, never, ever try to replace your BlackBerry's thumbwheel by yourselves!

1) I am not great with a soldering gun!
2) I am not great with a soldering gun!

I had a Vodafone locked 7230 with an immaculate thumbwheel and an O2 7230 which I use every day and the thumbwheel was worn.

I thought; can't be that hard... I've played with Nokia phones before and they just snap together!

So I took apart the Vodafone 7230 and tried to snap-off the trackwheel but it is soldered on, so out comes the gun and much over-confidence... hey presto, I now have a bust Vodafone 7230 and the same old worn out O2 7230!

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

Please; anyone who has a cosmetically pants 7230 but good unlocked internals I'd love to buy it from you!

Does any one know how to replace the thumbwheel and where to get a spare in the U.K.?

Hmm. I actually just "placed" the snapped off thumb wheel in place on a phone and glued it in place. It seemed fine after that.

When I snapped mine off I took the solder with it and now their are no contacts to "make contact"!

P.S. I have noticed that the BlackBerry's (okay, I've only used a 7230 and 7100X) have no option in the software to use Infrared yet they have a lanse on the case!

I can reveal the two 7230's I've opened do have Infrared hardware inside them... so what can it be used for?

@ All Developers: is their any reference to the Infrared port when your writing software for the BlackBerry's?

There is no way to use the IR port on the thing. If there was any hardware inside, it is most likely completely non-functional. There is nothing in any API I've used (3.7 and 4.0) to indicate a usable IR port.

They all have IR send and receive hardware, it just can't be used.
