Good Evening,
I plan to purchase an 8320 today. I have read every post here, and I am excited to do so. If possible, I would like to see if someone to clarify the following, as this is a pretty important/big purchase.
What do I need to get at the time of purchase if I want the following:
Internet Browsing on Wi-Fi (personal wireless router, starbucks wireless, anywhere)
MSN/AIM messaging without being charged per message (not required, but would be a nice benefit if free)
Essentially... What do you reccomend I purchase/do to save me the most money? I don't mind getting the uber-basic data package for Hotmail being POPed to me (I'd love that feature). Free calls that don't count against my minutes would be ideal, especially without the H@H (That possible?). I'll be sure to get the Feature Enabler, as well.
I understand that I should be able to browse the internet without getting that specific data plan by changing to "Wi-Fi Browser" in the settings, correct?
Ideally, I want to spend the least, while getting the most! In essence, what would you do if you were going out to buy one today? I greatly appreciate all help on this.
Thanks much!

Can someone please confirm if BBweather works via WiFi or not? I get a weird error when trying to login and use the application over WiFi. I have an e-mail plan through T-Mobile.
Thanks.

BBWeather does NOT work with stand-alone wifi. It requires a TCP connection. Sorry.

Yep, that does stink. I was really hoping the first post on this thread was still accurate, guess not.

Definitely no BB Weather over standalone wifi. It's possible that the OP still had the apn settings for TMobile entered when he did the test for BBWeather. BBWeather ONLY works over TCP so there is no way to make it work over standalone wifi.

Quick Question: I currently have a TMo E-Mail Data Plan ($9.99 to get my rebates). When the rebates are sent back, I'm planning to cancel the data plan. I've still got UMA and the 8320 WiFi Curve.
What will I lose if I cancel the data plan? All I really want is to log into Wifi networks for UMA and I'll sometimes browse the web on my phone at home (over WiFi).
Thanks.

More 8320 wifi troubles (no data plan)
Hi there,
This thread has been helpful for troubleshooting my problems using wifi with no data plan (much more helpful than T-Mobile!) but I still have problems and I hope folks can weigh in.
Here's the situation: BB 8320 Curve, T-Mobile, no data plan (except $10/mo email).
I cannot open any webpages using the browser if I type in a URL (using Browser-->Go To). The only time I can get sites to open is when I use my Bookmark Manager, and only a couple of those reliably open without error (one of which is my home page).
This is the case every time I try to use the wifi, and I have tested this in a number of reliable wifi zones.
I have changed my default browser config to Wi-FI Browser, per the previous suggestions. T-Mobile said I wasn't eligible for the Feature Enabler since I have their email plan (?).
Any thoughts?? Why can I only open a few bookmarked pages, and not many of those as it is??

xxx1040;xxx1088;xxx1077; you trying to say that push mail will work over wi-fi if the device is connected on BES? This doest make sense.. but please do let me know if you've tested it cause I do have a copy of the software, just never bothered to installed on the mail server 'cause my cell carrier doesn't support Blackberries and therefore I was under the assumption i wont be able to use it..

All that I can suggest is make sure that you actually changed the default browser to the wifi browser via Options>Advanced Options>Browser
You might just be changing the the current browser under Browser Configuration and not the default browser. When you're on the 'Go To' screen and typing in an address, make sure it says Wifi Broswer at the top and the wifi logo at the top right rather than EDGE or GPRS. Also, make sure when you go to whatever web page you're trying to type in, that the wifi logo doesn't switch to EDGE or GPRS, because that would mean for whatever reason that website is switching the browser. And there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get the BB Voice Add-On even if you do have email. Just call again and get a different rep.

Can someone confirm that SyncJe works over WiFi without a data plan?
I ask because the Funambol sync apps do not use WiFi (even if you have a full data plan/service books), and I would expect SyncJe to be based on a similar code base.
(yes, I know it's a one-year bump )

I seem to have to enable the "Data Services" option in Mobile Network Settings in order to connect to a WiFi network. Does that seem right??

tmobile 8320 here.
When I go to Options->Advanced Options->Browser,
the only choice I see is t-zones OR Hotspot Browser.
How can I get the WiFi Browser?

Nevermind, I feel dumb.
I didn't realize the WiFi browser being referred to in other threads meant the "Hotspot Browser". It's working now.

I had the BB Feature Enabler turned on, and for default browser, there are 3 options:
1. Internet Browser
2. t-zones
3. Hotspot Browser
Prior to asking for the enabler, option 1, Internet Browser, was not available.
Should I select #1 or #3 as the default if I intend to browse using wifi and do NOT have a data plan? Thanks!
