Cannot Play songs on 8100
Please Login to Remove!
I have search the threads here for a while (trust me) and i have tried many methods. I have formatted the card on the phone, and allso on the pc. I have turned mass storage on (then I do not see the media card on desktop manager). So I turned mass storage mode off, then I was able to see media card on media manager. From there I dragged my music over and watched it copy onto the media card. When finished I went to the hone and located the media card fiel and opened, but when I click any of the songs it stated it was unable to display file??????????????????? I am stuck. Is there another method that I am not using, or am I doing these steps (with regards to formatting) in the wrong order. Thanks in advance.

I do not know what DM is, so I don't know if it is on or off.

Sounds like DM (desktop manager) messed up the transfer. I assume they are mp3 files. I would format the card on the pc (erase the possibly bad songs), put it in the pearl and format it so the 4 folders show up, turn mass storage on. Then connect and Windows will recognize it as a mass storage device. Don't mess with DM for music/ringtones/photos/or video, it blows. Open the music folder and drag the music to it. That's what I do. DM is really slow copying stuff so most people don't use it for media.

If you connect the phone with the same miniusb cable (don't open DM) Windows will open a window that says stuff. Choose open folders to view files. You'll see one folder (blackberry) it'll open into 4 (music, photos, ringtones, video). Open music (it'll be blank) minimize it and then open your music folder and drag songs to the music folder on the card/pearl. Be sure you do what I said in the first post about formatting the card on pc and pearl first. You turn mass storage mode on. What that does is makes windows just see the card, not anything else to do with the phone like the apps, OS, etc. It thinks it's a storage drive, which is what you want.

Big Newt, I did exactly what you said. Put media card in pc and formatted. then put in phone and formatted. turned mass storage on. connected to pc, open my computer and opened the card that way. clicked on blackberry, clicked on music, and then dragged my music into the music folder. when i was finished i disconnected phone, went to the media card folder clicked music and clicke don a song, and still got the could not display folder!?!?!?!?!?
So i went back and turned mass storage off to see what happens, and same stinking results- NO MUSIC. this is starting to get frustrating because i am sure there is one little step to do to make it work and i cannot figure it out. Help please

Yeah, it must either be a setting on your phone (look under options, either general icon, or in the media player) or your OS is funky, in which case you need to reload it. The only other possibility is the songs are messed up (unlikely if they play on your DAP) or the card is messed up (unlikely since you can load it and the folders format). Sorry but you've got more work to do!

Okay if it helps I am running Desktop Manager 4.2.2.
Also whenever I pull the battery out to reboot the 8100, I get a message that says: exception: ApplicationRegistry.waitFor(0xac3ae76427d17f19)tim eout.
Could this be the reason the the media card gives me the "cannot display file" when I try to play a song.
If this is the reason how do I delete the current OS and get a new OS. Thanks

People, i know you are out there. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!! I am in desperate need of getting this worked out to play music. Obviously it looks like I need to remove the current OS, and install a new one. If I knew how to do it I would not be starting a thread to ask for help. HOW DO I DELETE THE CURRENT OS AND INSTALL A NEW ONE. THAT SEEMS TO BE MY PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED ALL OTHER SUGGESTIONS THAT HEVE BEEN BROUGHT FORWARD.

The latest OS is on the top of the 8100 page. I know its a TMo OS but you can still put it on your ATT phone and it will work fine. The instructions are there as well. No need to uninstall the old OS. Try that first and if it still doesnt work, I'd call ATT and explain the situation. But get the latest OS from the top of the 8100 page and go from there.

Thanks, I will try to install OS from top of the thread page. Question. What is the difference (if any) between Destop Manager software and the OS software. When I see links that say to click here for latest OS software, everything on the link talks about Desktop manager. Are they one in the same? This is the part that confuses me. But I will try the install.
The songs are all mp3, none from iTunes.

DM (desktop manager) is the software that communicates between the Pearl and you comp. You should have the latest one to load the OS onto your Pearl. The OS is the software that runs the Pearl. Big difference between them. As the previous poster asked, what type of files are these? I remember you saying that they were mp3 but not all mp3 files are the same. Also it might have DRM 9 digital rights management) that stops you from playing them on an unauthorized device. But first get the latest DM and OS and go from there.
