Not necessarily; programming the device doesn't change the fact that your carrier may not support it on their network.

Take it to your carrier and see if they'll activate it.

yea, just because you can un-lock it from one carrier doesnt' mean another carrier will activate it.

Hello there my fellow 8830 user, how do you unlock the sim portion of the world phone?

The Bell branded 8830s are SIM unlocked when shipped from the factory. You can use any non-North American SIM card in them. The device does not support North American GSM frequencies.

To use just it dial ##533443 from the phone screen and you should get the CDMA programming guide.

Even if it doesn't work, tech support was quite happy to tell me the number, no cover story required.
Hey there I think you might be able to help if possible. I have the 8830 World Phone , it has both the CDMA and SIM card GSM option. I am now living in Belize CA and need to unlock the SIM portion to use for a local carrier and / or the CDMA portion. Can you get me some information on that ? That would be awesome my fellow Blackberry user! FYI my IMEI is : 004401.13.123534.0
I have been trying forever on this!!

The GSM portion will not work in North America. If you can get the lock code for the device (unique to the ESN of the device) you *may* be able to get Sprint or Verizon to activate it for you.

Sorry, I read CA as California. If the SIM is asking for a password it's probably the SIM card itself that is password protected. Is the SIM card from a carrier in Belize? All you should need to do is get an active SIM card from your carrier in Belize, insert it into the device and make sure the Mobile Network settings are set to automatic roaming.

The GSM frequency that Belize uses isn't available in the 8830 - I went through this last year with my Telus 8830.
What I found most interesting is that there is CDMA coverage but simply no roaming agreement.

There is a CDMA network here and I know a guy that can hook me up on it for free, but do I still need to unlock the CDMA portion, if so how can I get the code?

Only RIM and the original carrier for the device will have the lock code.

You need a similar code for your device. Which carrier branding is on the front of the BlackBerry? Bell, Telus, Sprint, Verizon, etc?

Hi all, I am also looking for the unlock code for my Blackberry 8830, it is currently locked onto the Bell Mobility Network and I would love to get it to work with my Rogers Wireless plan, there is a spot for the SIM card but I don't know how to unlock it or where to find the MSL code that you all keep referring too. Could you please help

The 8830 will not work on North American GSM networks. This includes the Rogers network.

I can help you to get it connected on Bell Mobility's network and migrate any existing Rogers numbers you may have
