daphne,

Did you get the official Verizon 4.5 downloaded and installed?

I just downloaded it myself but I already have 4.5.0.77 installed by deleting the vendor.xml file. Will this Verizon update replace what I currently have and give me the same setup?

You should be fine with any 4.x DM version but no reason to avoid the latest. I'm using 4.6

I heard the same thing but the Verizon web site that is hosting OS 4.5 is also hosting DM 4.5, not 4.6. I wonder if there is going to be a problem besides the fact it took me 2.5 hours to download the 4.5 DM with cable. Slooooooooooooow.

I downloaded it but did not install it yet.

I installed this late Saturday night before the link was removed from Verizon's site. The only thing was I had do re-download my facebook app and also for some reason, my Mobile Im app was missing. Other than that, everything was fine and dandy after resending my service books.

Default Wireless Upgrade Option?

I found in Options>Advanced an "Wireless Upgrade" selection. Does that mean that future OS upgrades can be done OTA now?

That would be kind of cool, but the length of time it took to download the latest OS was extremely slow. I would be afraid of draining the battery.

You could always connect your charger during the update process. I would never do anything like an OS update while depending solely on the battery for power.

had too many issues with .77
I was lagging, and also after a while of sending messages on BBM, BBM would lock up. Instead of seeing check marks when I sent a message I would see a blue circle. And people would go unavailable. I would do a batt pull, and it would work fine again, I also got numerous messages after I did a batt pull. People said they saw me as unavailable as well. I installed .97 yesterday morning, and my BB is running great now. No lagging and I noticed I have more free memory then I did with .77

The Sprint powerdeck start page now says "My Sprint RIM Blackberrry 8830" instead of Unknown Device. Does that mean 4.5 official release for 8830 soon?

I've never known GPS to work with anything other than VZ Navigator.

Maybe that will be in the next beta!

Seriously, all my GPS apps work fine except that the latest Google Maps 2.3.2 does not work with the external BT GPS unit. Prior versions worked fine but the problem may lie with GMM.

I really wished that they would unlock the built-in GPS and get rid of their 'revenue-stream' way of doing business.

I should have been more clear...

I've never known the built-in GPS on my Verizon 8330 to work with anything other than VZ Navigator.

I have Verizon. They're only offering .77. I guess I should wait to upgrade until .97 becomes available for my 8330? I'm also hearing about Google Map Mobile launch problems with v.4.5.x.x. Anyone using Verizon's .77 w/Google Maps? Any known problems? Really wanted to upgrade to fix my problem with the music player not recognizing over 1000 songs on the memory card. Wondering if I should wait this out for a few months...

The camera looks different now and did you all notice that there is an option to select Geotagging? Was that there before? Enabling it results in a red x on the screen I guess saying it is disabled, but if this wasn't there before, it certainly points towards the possibility of enabling the functionality...??? Can one hope? I've still been hearing mixed answers on whether the storm GPS is activated, but surely if they activate the storm, so many curve users will be up in arms they wouldn't ignore us?

since this is a Verizon released version of the OS...I really hope this could be pointing towards GPS opening up....

The Geotagging is a new feature in the OS from RIM. It wasn't there previously.

The OS is created by RIM. The carriers just test it to be sure that it works with their infrastructure and then they release it.

The GPS lockdown in the Verizon is not done with the OS.

I'm seeing rumblings that the intent IS to unlock it for use with BB maps and the geotagging feature. BUT...I'll believe it when I see it.
