Default Essential 3rd party apps?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello. I just recently received my 8320 and I am curious as to what some of the people whom may have had this longer sees as essential applications to have for it.

So far I really only have the Opera Mini browser.

Also, any tweaks, tips, or tricks you have discovered to make life with a 8320 easier or more convenient would be welcome as well.

Thanks in advance.

Be carefull adding too many apps to the 8320. It doesn't have a lot of memory leftover after the full OS is installed. Read the FAQ's about memory issues and how to free up memory.

Is this also an 8310 issue?

It's an issue on all models using OS 4.2.0 and up. More so on the 8320 as the OS is just bigger with all the wifi stuff.

Is it not possible to install apps onto the microSD card? I could do that with my MotoQ and was nice since I didn't have to worry about limited memory...

No, it's not possible to load apps to the card. It's media and storage only, for now. Maybe someday.

Thanks for the heads up man. I haven't found mcuh that interests me at the moment anyway. Microsky and Opera so far.

There are a lot of good applications here:

My favorites are BBWeather, Beyond411, and Google Maps.

Thanks, anyone happen to know if there's any free dictionary or thesaurus programs out there? $20 is kinda unappealing even though I would use it fairly often.

Yea, Beyond411 has a great free dictionary, use the "Dict" plugin. There are several more thorough dictionary threads here also if you search the Aftermarket Software section.

On my 8300 I have:
Ramble IM (for AIM, I never use it)
MyAlarm (multiple alarms)
Ascendo DataVault
Google Maps (very cool, if only it knew my location)

I had Opera, but I did not get along with it. I really was not impressed and it was a memory hog. I removed it after a few days. I just use the built in browser.
I have a 4 GEG Sandisk

Yeah I am unsure about Opera so far. I just got the RIM broswer provisioned today as it was not there when I originally activated the phone and sim even though I had the data plan. It seems to have some conflict with my OTA downloads. I wish Mozilla Firefox would do a mini!

I also bought the 4 gig card, it's great, woot!

I am trying out the mapquest navigator. I don't think I like it as well as google maps (might rock if I had a gps puck). I did read in another thread that the new google maps is worse (bloated/slow) than the old one.

I had more apps on the pearl, but so far on the 8320 the only essential app for me is beyond411. (I also have the midp-ssh app) I would have said yahoo messenger, but it is included with the OS.

Once I get my microSD card installed I will look for a free file manager utility.

I think I may uninstall the mapquest nav and try google maps again...
