Default Memory card IT policies

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Just wanted to know what other admins are doing about the newer devices that can use external memory cards? I found the policy to turn the card off but I would like to leave it enable but require some form of protection on the card. How secure is it? Would they be able to move the card between blackberrys or is it tied to the "home" device?

There is a setting in the Security Policy Group:

External File System Encryption Level

I can't find the settings documented in the reference guide (version 12) and their cut off in the BES gui

Any insight would be fantastic.

I have set the external card to be encrypted to device key and to include the multi media directories. In other words - do it all, dont use a separate key. My thinking being that I dont want my users to have to remember another password, on the other hand, had we made them create a password for the card then it could be used between devices.

Default How do you verify encryption of card?

Ok I finally got my microSD card in and a reader. I have a test policy with the setting:

External File System Encryption Level - Encrypt to User Password (include multi-media directories)

On the BB (8830) it shows Encrypt media files - Yes

I also kept use the BB as a Mass Storage device on.

Now testing this when I connect the BB it asks for a password to access the files .. great

My tests are not so good when I take the card out.

Testing the card in a reader .. it cannot be accessed

Putting the microSD into a SD casing .. you can view the files on the card .. is that expected? I would think encyption would scramble them? I notice there is an extension added and even if you remove it .. you can't open the file ..

Anyone else going through this?
