Default BES 5.0.1 Help!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All....

I've purchased the One Time Upgrade from RIM. Backed up my SQL 2005 database(s), believe I
have gone through everything with a fine tooth comb, alas I am still feeling that I am
over looking something, which brings to me here... I inherited this position from the
previous tech who kept next to nothing for notes, and apparently this BES upgrade has been
planned since middle of last year. Nice that I have no Doc's on anything.. Grrr..

I have tried to read the maze of doc's on the RIM site however I am finding them as clear
as MUD!! Although it could just be me who knows

This is how I am planning on proceeding.

I am copying the BES upgrade extracted files to the server that I am planning to the run the BES upgrade on.

Is there a run down list of things that NEED to be completed on the BES server, SQL 2005 SP2 server or on the Exchange 2007 SP2 server? prior to upgrading?

I am sure this has been asked MANY MANY TIMES before however I can't find any specific answers when using the search feature.

Thanks.

My BES 5.0.1 runs happy with MSDE2000 and would also run with Exchange 2000

If you want to do an in-place upgrade, and it is ok, that your users experience an outage during the upgrade,
install the upgrade key ( I think this can be even done later during installation )

run the installer.
The installer will check for the most important things itself.

However: I had to activate all my (only 4) BBs when I did the upgrade from V4 to V5
This is not a problem if you have only a handful of users, but If you have 100+, you should prepare yourself and your users if this happens to you also.

If you do an inplace upgrade just run the installer. BACK UP THE CONFIGURATION DATA BASE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are running the besx-501.exe package file, i think it is, the download from RIM, it will upgrade the SQL during the process, at last mine upgraded my sql express 2005 SP2 and made it SP3.
