I have had the 8900 curve for about 1 month now and always tend to place the phone on standby mode by pressing the mute key. Unfortunately the phone does not go onto standby mode when pressing the mute key. The mute key does however mute a telephone conversation.

Anyone know how I can correct this problem?

I don't believe the mute key is supposed to put the phone on standby. Seems like maybe the 8800 series did but I don't see anything that indicates the 8900 is supposed to.

hi tk lady, thanks for your reply. The mute key is positioned at the top part on the right hand side of the 8900, at the opposite end of the keypad lock key.
this key has both functions: mute whilst on a call and standby mode

same with the bold. mute puts device into standby.

Okay. Didn't know that and I had even pulled out my Getting Started Guide that came with it. Only shows this as the Mute key. But just tried it and it said it was in standby mode. So have no idea why it isn't working. I'm sure you've tried the standard Battery Pull Re-boot.

You never know, new blackberry users generally do not know about battery pulls (they think that removing the battery will not do anything to their bb, like most other phones).
