What exactly are you trying to do? You can't change the opening splash screen if that is what you meant. The OS can be from any carrier as it is developed by RIM for the specific device and makes no difference.

Do you have a BB plan from your new carrier, whomever that might be (and please update your profile to show the carrier). You need that for all of the BB related services.

Are you sure the device is unlocked? If it is indeed unlocked, and the carrier is GSM, then it should work when you put in their SIM.

If the carrier will not activate it because it isn't their device, then that is a true carrier issue and no amount of software can change it. You need to discuss it with them.

Just for the heck of it I went to the 3 UK site and selected open a new account. I followed the setup by picking a 9700 then it offered only one plan, voice and text. Ixxx8217;m not sure but it seems they do not offer a blackberry data plan for the phone. I could not find a way to get one. I may be wrong but if they donxxx8217;t this may be your issue.

Thanks for your replys,

The handset was originally an Orange UK handset for pay as you go.

I have unlocked the phone and inserted a Three Pay as you go sim.

Calls , text and internet are all functioning. However I can set up my email and get the error message " your device had a problem connecting to the server "

I spoke to Three and they told me I cant use the Blackberry functions because it is not a Three supplied handset.

Is there anything I can do, new software or change of mail server settings ?

I dont think Three do a dedicated blackberry plan, but I know that Three do support the Blackberry functions with their packages.

Im only really interested in email forwarding and using bb facebook, bbm etc

Im a private not business user.

Thanks for the additional information. You should have included that in your original post. You must have a BB data plan for email, Facebook BBM and all other RIM related services. If the carrier doesn't offer a BB data plan then there isn't much that can be done.

Did you have email on Orange? If so, did you cancel your BIS account with them when you switched carriers?

I had email and all BB functions with Orange PAYG. I had a plan called dolphin and paid an extra charge for bb functions. I didnt have a contract with them.

Is it feasible that a BB from one network can be used on another once unlocked ?

Funny they donxxx8217;t state that on their web site. I would be very interested in finding out if your successful or their web site is lacking. Please post your final on the issue.

By using email and all BB functions, you would have had to create a BIS account. This ties your BB's PIN to that account on that carrier.

To release the PIN to use on another's carrier BIS account [for all BB functions] the original account with Orange must be deleted.
This can only be done by the carrier.
