Default Ringtones on BB

I'm not a techno-guru, but can someone explain why you can't upload a ringtone from your PC to the BB directly (using Desktop Manager) without having to go to website to download directly to BB? For those of us without BB web access it would be great help. Also, seems to me that upload from PC to PDA is kinda industry-standard methodology...

I guess the obvious answer is the RIM didn't build that functionality in!

RIM is new to the whole consumer end of the business. Until the 7100 series, they marketed primarily to businesses. Where very few people asked for ringtones. I have 500 in house and have not had one question regarding ringtones.

Given the current level of interest for ringtones and additional themes, I'm sure they'll include it sooner or later.

it's for the same reason you can't do it on other cell phones. The carriers don't want you uploading stuff like that to the BB. They want you to use up your data plan.

Actually you can do that on many phones; I can upload ring tones to most Motorola and Nokia phones (and backgrounds, too), so it is not that uncommon.

well...

i was gonna ask a question if you could give me some help also...

i have the 6710 and i've been tryin' everything i can to get ringtones on the bb without wireless web. i have no ideas other than, well, they made the device specifically for typing email and sms. there can be so much text it's almost overwhelming sometimes. i love it!

i have only had this one three days and i'm already happy. so, when i create a "killer app" that will let you browse your network through the cradle, i'll post it on here... 'til then, i guess five bills is worth internet access. oh yeah, i guess i better start learning java...lol!
