Default Cant get 8120 to connect to home WiFi

Please Login to Remove!

Before I start, I will mention that I am a total BB newbie and don't own/havent used one before. I currently have a relative visiting from Central America who does own a 8120. She can connect to the Internet through WiFi at some of our local shopping malls, but at home we can't get the WiFi connection to work. I tried adding the BB's mac adress to my router(DLink DI714P+) but that didn't work. I then shut off mac address filtering(and the WEP encryption is also off) and have a totally open Wifi access point but it still doesn't work. The access point shows up in the BB but the signal bars are grey..I can also see the BB through my router software. Anyone have any idea of what else I can try?
Any help would be much appreciated.

BTW I have read the BB Faq.

Thx in advance.

I'll answer my own question and hopefully it helps somebody else with a possible solution.
I recently got my hands on a newer Dlink router that uses the 802.11g standard and the Blackberry can now access the internet through the Browser. The old Dlink router I had used the older 802.11b standard..so am guessing that the 8120 may not be compatible with the older Wireless standard.

BB should be good on B and G networks. Only a few can do A. I've used by 8320 on B before with a really old Linksys router. But glad to hear it works now!

I don't believe any BlackBerrys work on 802.11a networks. B and G only.

I think the Bold does. According to this at least: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/blackberrybold/bold_specifications.jsp
