Hey, please help me solve this annoying problem.
I have 8900 on Tmobile with 4.6.1.250 (4.2.0.113) installed. Recently, the new email message indicator always showing 1 unread message. I checked all my mailboxes (separate icons) - no unread messages, checked the combined Messages icon - no unread messages.
Sometimes, when the new message arrives, the icon shows 2 unread messages and the indicator shows "new" message. After I delete the new message inside the dedicated mailbox, I still see a new message icon on the combined Messages mailbox. However, there are no unread or new messages inside.
I also checked Saved messages folders.

Is there another place where the unread message can be hiding? Annoying!

I run into this from time to time. I hide some 'message' icons (messages, phone, IM) and it's usually in one of these. Just a shot in the dark...

depending on the OS level, check to see if you have a SMS message.

I am having the same trouble with my Bold 9700. I have tried doing a battery pull, deleted every message from the account it was saying the email is from, have tried reconciling and even removed the email account from my phone and have still had no luck =[

If I have a missed phone call, they show up with an unread message icon sometimes.

Typically, this is user error. What I have seen is an attempt to delete an unread message and it get's sent to Saved Messages instead. Happens to folks all the time. Can also be moving an unread message to a folder. I would LOVE to see RIM put an Unread Messages indicator in the Folder view just for this particular issue.
