Default Some Sound Profile Settings Reset After Reboot

Please Login to Remove!

I am still searching across the internet (and here) for an answer, but I may not be searching for the right words... I have two profile settings that get reset each and every time I reboot the phone: eBay and BeWeather. I have no idea where the issue is that causes this.

In other words, I set up a profile for notifications (phone, messages, SMS, eBay, BeWeather, etc.) and go about my business. At some point, I decide to reboot the phone (either with a battery pull, by acknowledging a message to reboot, or by keystroke), and when the phone comes back, all of my profile settings are intact with the exception of eBay and BeWeather. Both of those settings get reset back to a "default" like when the applications were first installed.

I don't know if this problem is a bug with the OS (5.0.0.296), or with these two applications in particular. I have other applications that have custom profile settings such as Facebook, but they don't get reset. Both of these applications are the latest versions for each, and while the eBay application didn't exist when I had my Bold 9000, I did not experience this issue with BeWeather on the 9000 running the latest released OS.

So:
  1. Does anyone else see this happen?
  2. Does anyone know if there is a known cause and a fix?
  3. Do the OS updates after .296 fix this?

Thanks for the input.

I use Alert Matrix, and I noticed that I would set the alerts in the profiles, and later they were back to the defaults. I did not tie it into rebooting, but that may have been the cause. Same OS level as you.

Hm... could still be issues with specific software, but I'm still wondering if this is a bug in the OS. I also wonder if this is fixed with later OS versions.

I am thinking I will install .405 once a carrier releases it. It reportedly fixes the SMS bug, and I wonder if maybe it will fix this issue as well.

Why not install .405 now? You can always go back if you want.

True, but I'd rather wait for the moment. .296 is working well enough for me so there is no rush. I would like to have this profile issue fixed, but I can wait. Besides, I don't mind letting others try out this latest version to see what else may be fixed or broken.

Since you are running .405, did you have issues like we are describing with your profiles, and have they since been fixed after updating the OS?

I never had the profile issue with any OS. And I went from .296 > .351 > .371 > .351 > .405.

The reason I went from .371 back to .351 was because I got the SMS bug in .371, but it was fine for me in .351.

I'm just one that likes to have the latest available, and if it doesn't work for me, I go back.

Hm... Interesting. That you didn't experience this issue makes it all the more frustrating.

I am running OS v5.0.0.351 on a BES, and I also see the profile issue.

Right now I see it with:
BeeJive 1.9.7 and 2.0 RC1
UberTwitter v.925
BerryWeather 2.0.54

I can setup the profile information, wait for 15-20 minutes (to make sure the settings get synced with BES), and do a battery pull, and the settings are back to default.

Right now, the only two bugs I have are the profile issues and the SMS. Hopefully .405 will fix both!

I am going to try v405.

I work around this bug by creating custom (new) profiles - these seem to retain settings for entries which are added by programs.

I see this on my 9700 (5.0.0.296) as well. I do know that some versions of OS 5 didn't support 3rd party notifications in profiles at all but this changed with later builds - most seem to say it changed after .296 but clearly .296 on my device supports it - but they don't "stick" through a reboot - or at least they don't stick in all profiles.

I don't know that anyone really knows why this is or exactly how to fix it - it seems to be an issue with the OS but what that issue is remains a question mark.

But I'm going to try the suggestion upthread and create a custom profile and see what it does.

I have only seen this problem with Beejive (1.9.7 and 2.0) and Ubertwitter (.925). Facebook app seems to be immune to this issue. With Beejive, I don't even have to reset the device to see the problem. I change the profile, then if I shutdown the app and launch it again the settings are back to default. I will try the custom profile as well and report back.

Long story short, .405 is worse, and removes some features in .351. I'm going back. I'll try the custom profile route.

Ok. Back on .351, and here is what I found:

With Version .405 I Found:
1. Fixed SMS / MMS alerts (they now give the same sound as "Messages" for that contact. - Exception: You have a contact that is on both BB Messenger and SMS. The Profile BB Messenger plays instead of the Contact's "Messages" Alert when you are SMS'd or BBMessenger'd.

2. Setting for Thumbnails per row is back in Multimedia Options.

3. The "Main Message List Options" in Messages app, which gives you the ability to filter what messages get shown in the main messages icon has been removed. - This is a biggy.

4. Huge lag added back into the browse function when scrolling to select a profile sound.

5. Red Alert Badges on FOLDERS are broken. For example: I have a folder called "Social Networking" which has my Twitter App, Facebook and MySpace. When I get an alert on any of these, the folder shows the Red Alert Badge. When I access the application that generates the badge, the badge is never cleared. (this was not present in .351).

6. Certain profile alerts (beejive) still aren't saved after a reboot.

Back on .351 I've found this:

1. SMS / MMS still "broken" for alerts and names showing in SMS app.
2. No setting for Thumbnails per Row in Multimedia App
3. Message List Option exists.
4. Lag gone
5. Red Alert Badges on folders work.
6. Profiles arent remembered after a reboot.... Sort of... hopetindall's suggestion of a custom profile definitely works -- even after a reboot!

That means, that from what I can tell, .351 is the most complete version, with SMS and Thumbnails being the only issues.

Hope this helps.

... And here is the same review for .415:

1. SMS / MMS showing names is FIXED, but for alerts using the Contact Alert settings for messages, and not the profile's setting.
2. Still no setting for Thumbnails per Row in Multimedia App
3. Message List Option exists to filter what messages are shown in the main messages box - this is good.
4. No Lag when browsing for media in the Profiles screen
5. Red Alert Badges on folders work.
6. Profiles settings for the "Normal" profile are... SAVED after a reboot.... The suggestion that hopetindall has in the post above definitely works regardless -- even after a reboot!
7. Boot time is pretty average. I didn't time it, but I'd guess it was around 1:30 - 2:00.

That means, that from .351 to .415 things have been FIXED and nothing has been broken.

I'd call .415 the current leader.

I've been running .415 for several days now, and have found it to be stable, little or no memory leak and, as JSylvia007 says, it fixes all of the reported issues from his list.

Thanks!.

Can you please check this issue? When I hit reply to an message (BIS email), then scroll all the way up, I am unable to change the "Send Using" account. Instead of getting a drop down list of all my email accounts that i can reply from, I get a weird black box covering the account name. I noticed this in the two prior releases. Thanks.
