Default BES with Hosted Email service

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

We currently have around 25 BB's of vary size and shape, that we use through our provider's BIS service to access our in house email system.

Shortly, we'll be moving our email to hosted Microsoft Live email system, and want to keep using the blackberrys.

The show stopped for most people here however seems to be the calendar. At present, because the powers that be decided that they didn't want to pay extra for the calendar features on the BIS solution, people recieve their email wirelessly and sync up their calendars with Outlook via USB.
What I'd like to do is move to having a BPS server on site, so we can manage the blackberrys in house, and therefor use the calendars wirelessly as well.

So the big question is, has anyone ever set up a BES server with a hosted Microsoft Live system? Is it possible? are the any pitfalls I should look out for?

All I'm aware of at the moment, is that we'll have powershell access into our hosted server, but other details on the hosted system are yet to come out.

BES only works with Exchange, Notes Mail, and Group Wise. No Microsoft Live.

Why not go with Exchange instead of Microsoft Live? Then you'll get FULL Wireless Sync of Calendar, Address Book (Contacts), Memo Pad (Notes), and Tasks, as well as all the other benefits of a BES.

Also, Hosted environments tend to move to new versions fairly quickly, and BES 5 is due out soon with even more features!

Well as I understand it, we will have access to an exchange server through powershell, but what level of access is still unclear.

I'm just curious if anyone else has tried it.

As for why we're switching to it - we're a university, so it's completely free

In order for BES to function, you need unrestricted MAPI connection to your hosted Exchange (Not Microsoft Live) environment, and the latency between BES and Exchange server should be less than 35ms.

My guess is that you're not going to meet any of those requirements, and this solution will not work for you.
BES needs to be "close" to the messaging server.

I also believe MS Live is running on the beta Exchange 2010 software. I doubt it is compatible even if you could get access.
