Why did RIM drop the cradle charger connections
Please Login to Remove!
One thing I loved about my 2 pearls is I could drop it onto the powerstation or into he car cradle and it would charge...
But unfortunately they dropped this on the Bold and the Storm and considering the Storm's battery life this would have been most useful. Especially considering that the Storm uses Micro USB, wheras all other blackberrys used Mini USB.
I liked the fact that you could plug a BB into almost any USB charger and it would charge...... but not the storm.

Sorry, but you are completely wrong. I have a cradle for my Bold, and all it requires is a mini USB connection which you could use a car charger for. The Power Station which also charges an extra battery & headset also uses a cradle. Those aren't "fake buttons" on the bottom edge of the device as some foolish reviewer reported!
There's also a "Sync Pod" for the Storm.
Head over to the OFFICIAL RIM Accessory site - http://www.shopblackberry.com - for details.

Have the desktop charging cradle for my Storm. Works great and slides in very easy. Storm becomes a nice desktop clock while charging.

They got charging cradles for the Bold and Storm, look at shopblackberry.com, shopcrackberry.com, and newegg has them for cheap, I got my Curve charging pod for 7 bucks!

I believe what he is saying is the bronze colored charging connectors are gone from the Storm. Instead of those charging connectors you now have yo insert the connection into the device. Alarm goes off at 5am and you try to put that thing back on the charger, its close to impossible when its pitch black in the room. With the curve you could basically just toss it into the charger and it would be good to go.

No, Both the Bold and Storm can be "dropped" into the charger base without having to plug/unplug anything.

The USB stays plugged into the charge cradle. The BB just gets dropped into and out of the cradle.....
Use one of these: BlackBerry Charging Pod for Storm - ShopCrackBerry

This is a link for the Bold Charging Cradle. Newegg.com - BlackBerry 30758LRP Desktop Charging Pod For Bold 9000 - Cell Phone Accessories looks like you drop it in the cradle then conect the power to the Cradle just the Curve. (Correct me if I am wrong.)

What the OP is saying, is that on the storm, those two metal pieces are no longer there, with the Storm, you have the charger plugged into the cradle, and then have to set the storm into the micro usb that is built into the cradle. There are no metal prongs on the storm that will charge it.

Another question.
Are the chargers different?
If I plug the USB cable into a regular Blackberry Charger (mains / car), I can charge my Bold, however this isn't the case for the Storm when using the supplied USB to Micro USB cable.... it just doesn't charge
Is their a specific car charger for the storm?
BlackBerry Accessories UK Store - Product Detail Types&category=Chargers&pid=F2222XLE6Z8G78A25QF
I've asked this question in General, because it relates to all Blackberrys not just the Storm

OK I understand your point, but what difference does it make? There's a base for charging, it requires allot less finesse to charge the device than having to attach the USB each time......

Well, the biggest issue with that is, I've known some people to look at these base chargers instead of upgrading/replacing their BB due to the USB pins inside the BB itself getting bent or just going bad. Therefore, if this happens with the Storm, then the cradle isn't an option.

Exactly. My mini usb managed to stop working, instead of trying to deal with AT&T at the time and just used the charging prongs w/ the cradle instead.
