Default Multiple BES accessing single Exchange account

Please Login to Remove!

At this time, if I have a user that loses their device, I send the wipe command out to the device and check the POLC log to find the ACK line and take comfort in knowing that the device has been wiped. Unfortunately, I cannot re-activate the user on that same BES with a new device, because the wipe command is good for 7 days. Leaving them on the BES with the device will allow me to re-send the wipe command out for another 7 days if I do not see the ACK line in that period. If I remove them, I have to hope that the device surfaces in that 7 days.

(I am aware that a device wipes after the default 10 incorrect p/w attempts and that I can change it to a lower value or that there is the policy of wipe after XX days of power-on etc.. Just follow me here as I have been asked to come up with ideas)

If I setup a "lost/stolen BB" BES instance that is seperate from my primary BES, is there any problem with two devices, operating on different DB's, accessing the same Exchange account? RIM was not able to confirm and merely said "I think so". Outside of the cost of the SRP, CAL's, and physical equipment or VM, there isn't any additional cost (ha, not my money), just another system I have to manage and update.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm currently running BES 5.0.2 MR3 for Exch 2007 SP1 with remote SQL.

Thanks

I think you're making this way more complicated than it needs to be.
Send the wipe command for the old device, and activate the user on a new device right away.
The wipe is PIN specific, and will sit on RIM's network for 7 days. Maybe the device is on and gets wiped right away. Maybe it doesn't.
If the device is password protected, then why should you even care if the wipe occurs at all? No one is going to circumvent the password protection on the handheld.

Setting up a lost/stolen BES has to be one of the most absurd ideas I've ever heard of.
Complete waste of money, time and resources.

Oh, I agree with you. THEY are making it much more complicated. However, not my call. I'm merely giving options. My other option would be to set up BESX, which has minimal costs, but you get the idea....

Agreed - I do have mine wipe if they don't get their policies after 30 days. That usually saves me having to do it if I do a swap and then later on have to use the old device as a spare :D

In your case, you could set it to 7 days. It will be just like Lost!
