Default BlackBerry Device Software bundles

Please Login to Remove!

I'm searching for new BlackBerry Device Software bundles from the BAS and its returning no results.

Our provider is O2 in the UK, do they control this or is it a communication problem?

If so is there anyway to manually add them?

Cheers in advance!

Your carrier works in conjunction with RIM to make certain versions of handheld code available for OTA deployment.

It's possible that your carrier isn't offering any, or you don't have any devices activated on your BES which meet the criteria for OTASL.

You can't manually add packages.

We've got a range of devices on the test system, 8300 up to 9700 so I would hope some would qualify?

Is there any other way to perform OTA device updates?

Maybe your carrier doesn't offer OTA updates for their devices.
I have no idea what O2 has made available.

I've now gone down the network share route and I'm now running into the following error: "One or more BlackBerry Device Software bundles were detected for a specific carrier. No devices exist in the system for this carrier. The bundles were not added. "
This is widely reported on the interweb but there never seems to be a solution, was one ever found? We are using O2 device updates and only O2 devices.

Orinoko, per penguin...you should check with the carrier. If the carrier does not offer one, you are doing a whole lotta work for nuttin'.

There's no solution, because this isn't a problem.
The message is self explanatory.

O2 has certain wireless bundles available for OTA deployment, however they aren't for any of the devices you currently have activated on your BES.
For example (and this is just an example) they might have an OTA package available for the 8900 with source OS 4.5.6.7, but if you don't have any 8900's activated on your BES currently running OS 4.5.6.7... then there's nothing to do.

OTASL is very specific. Not only does it care about the carrier and device model, but it looks specifically at the OS currently running on the target handheld.

Thanks for the information, I get it now. I'll go have a word with my supplier.

You are correct, response from O2 in the UK:-

"This is not something we have launched and is still in testing. We are led to believe the service should be enabled by the end of the year however this is not an official statement and may be subject to change."

Default Same Issue here, with a twist

I am having the same issue with Vodafone in Ireland.
I am migrating users from Professional server to BESX and thought I would enable the OTA updates etc, but there are none available.
I now have a situation where the BESX server won't update the handhelds, and it won't let me turn the enterprise update feature off, so they can't be updated manually either.

Any ideas?

I'd try talking to Vodafone in the first instance to see what their stance is.

I am waiting for a call back, but I won't hold my breath.
My issue is that I need to get this done fairly quickly, and get all my users migrated across, but I certainly don't want to end up in a situation where I have to rebuild my new BES and wipe everyones' handhelds again.
They get a bit grumpy whenever we do it..

So I am still learning all this, but let me get this straight. I want all our devices to have the same OS. We have about 600 AT&T, about 300 verizon, and a few overseas "random" companies. To get the software do I go to RIM or the carriers?

We are using BES 5.0.2 and I want to push out The 5.0 divice OS.

You don't get the software at all. BES merely makes the request to the carrier, and the carrier pushes the OS to the handheld.
You don't get to arbitrarily pick an OS version to push. The carrier must approve the version, and the correct source version must already be installed on the handheld.

This is all explained in the BES administrator documentation.
