Smile 8120 - new os 4.5 question

Please Login to Remove!

I'm considering upgrading to the new os.. (the current one listed).

I have at&t and I have the 8120.

Has anyone had any issues with the upgrade? I'd like to know before upgrading.

Yes, I have looked at other posts. mainly those are from 8100 users.

please let me know
I don't want to take any chances! (even though I've done other os upgrades on my 8120)

I updated, for some reason it's kind of slow to respond when I'm in the menu option of applications. Other than that I'm loving the new browser and something odd keeps happening because instead of a memory leak while I'm leaving the BB alone, I get a memory gain. (usually 4-5 MB, stops at 26MB though)

I haven't had any problems with the new OS, though softreset doesn't work, and you might have to reinstall some applications (Facebook I hear doesn't work untill you install it again, happens to some people)

I'm downgrading. I had a huge memory leak on 4.5. Plus odd things were happening like I would be roaming while in downtown Denver- no reason to be on another carrier's network!

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

If you're not having any issues that would require an upgrade, I would wait until less-buggy releases of OS 4.5 is officially available.

Is it so different from 4.3? I didn't notice any changes.

I read that it would support AJAX or "Web 2.0 sites". However I cannot acces these sites or they still are as buggy as when using 4.3 browser

you can now watch videos in youtube, that's definitely something new. Never used to work with the 8120 and the 4.3 OS

It plays back MPEG-4 videos as well. I have Saw and Finding Nemo on my phone. Was great when wife was in surgery for 2 hours. 4.3.0.115 lacks the decoder. Also adds more WiFi Encryption options.

I have read that it messes up with T-Mobile Phones. Is that still the Case?

Only in the sense that UMA won't work. Other than that, mine workED fine. I downgraded to 4.3 after I couldn't get UMA to work.

I have OS 4.5.0.44, platform 2.7.0.61 on my 8120 on T-Mobile. UMA and everything else works fine! I love HTML email. Also use Blackberry Unite with it and It looks like Unite supports over the air OS upgrades. I have that option since I installed Unite. It even searches for upgrades, but for obvious reasons it doesn't find any yet.

I upgraded to 4.5.0.52 last night and I love it to death, but I have a problem with myLED indicator. It flashed three times when I get a MMS or SMS, but then it stays lit...constantly. I check the message, and unless I reply, it stays on.

Anyone know how to shut it off? I changed the indicator on all messages, and the status light to never come on...and it still does.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

.52 is out for the 8120 or was that a typo and should have been .42?

So do calls switch on and off UMA ok? I'm running .42 and for some reason it doesn't swap back to EDGE when I'm leaving the house, it just drops the call. I'd load 4.3 back on but I don't want to do this and find that it wasn't the OS.

The guy above is using a 8100 which .52 is available for.

Did you do anything special to get UMA to work? I downgraded because UMA wouldn't work.

upgrade works fine for at&t's 8120!
Biggest reason for 4.5 would be HTML

No typo. I have a T-Mobile 8100 that I purchased August 31st, 2007, and I put 4.5.0.52 on last night. I fixed the LED staying on by enabling the status light. I can live with it. Everything else works ridiculously awesome. The media player looks great, the browser is faster, and the options are sweet. I did, however, lose my preloaded pictures. Oh well, I have custom backgrounds anyway.

Anyone tried Docs2go on 4.5 yet? I think I'll give it a go.

I don't see my Docs to Go and tried to add it and don't see it there either.
