I was really looking forward to the new 4.2 firmware but after trying it for a day I found no really compelling new features and a few really annoying bugs.

As cool as it SOUNDS to be able to use the 8700 as a BT modem it's just too damned slow to be of any real use.

The new media features are nice looking but not particularly useful.

The ring volume bug is huge - I missed calls all day.

Nothing really justifies a change for me - not to mention the data I lost. YMMV.

Which release of 4.2 were you using?

I'm not surprised that people have been disappointed with 4.2. The posts prior to its release were expecting all sorts of crazy miracles.

Using my 8700g as a modem works fine for me. Sure, it's not WiFi, but I can download MBs of emails within 30 minutes or so.

im using that muti language pack everybody DLed last month i looks like its ver the EVDO version of 8700 the 8703E because the abiliy to activate and downloade themes is disabled ALS i takes atleas 80 minutes to load up after a hard reset. you can acess the media manager but you cant sotr any songs on however you can use it to port ringtones wich is handy the maps funtion only wokesb if your device has GPS wich is limited to the 8703E

I'm not really sure I understood that, but no it's not for the 8703e. Downloadable themes are not disabled, there just aren't any for 4.2.1 yet. Maps also does work perfectly, and the GPS option is for a bluetooth GPS puck not internal GPS
