Yes, they are .amr files.

This is what I use to convert voice notes to mp3 files and vice versa.

This is why I continue to use Dollars5 vNotes. A lot of people, myself included, don't want to install RealPlayer to play amr files.

Don't get your point. Just loaded Dollars5 on my pearl and recorded a test file. It is in the same format (amr) as the Blackbery native voice notes. So what is the advantage of dollars5???

EDIT: Nevermind just seen that can be changes to .wave

You can go into Settings and change the file format. In addition to amr, they have au, wav, and two compressed wav formats. I use the Ulaw wav format, and Windows Media Player handles it just fine.

how does one change the format that the voice note gets saved as. I have a curve-verizon
also how do I or can I change the storage destination to be unlimited and on my memory card that I have added in the phone. Will it be searchable and then transferrable thru email still?

I don't see any options to change the voice notes format - either in the Media options, in the voice recorder (no options there) or in general settings...where do you see this option? I'm on 4.5.0.77 on Pearl 8130.
