Default Want to downgrade to v 4.2 on my 8320

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 8320 and wanted to downgrade back to 4.2 as I have the 4.5.18 on my Curve. I can't seem to find the 4.2 software. Can someone please help me find it. My curve is from T Mobile, if it matters

Why would you even want to downgrade to 4.2? Have you tried upgrading the the latest if you're having problems?

Even Rogers doesn't have 4.2 for your phone.

the only reason I would downgrade is for ringer volume...I have been missing calls since the upgrade from 4.2...does 4.5.0.174 fix this issue?

I haven't had a ring tone volume issue with 4.5 on the 8320. At this point it would be easier to just find some louder ringtones than downgrade to an obsolete OS.

Just open up a ringtone in a sound editing program and adjust the gain. Save the file and then transfer it to your phone.

I agree with you....the BlackBerry rings aren't very loud, and I have had to adjust the gain in a few of my own ringtones.

And you can use a program such as Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder to accomplish making the ringtones louder.

Default Downgrade to 4.2 on 8310

I also want to downgrade to 4.2 as I have been havving numerous probelems since I upgraded to 4.5.

Some of the problems are:

1. Hangs at times and battery pull is the only way out
2. Uncaught exception error at times. Had to uninstall many apps to get rid of this problem including GMAIL
3. Swithces off automatically at times and does not come on unless battery is pulled and started again

I am not techincally proficient. But how do I re-load the OS again? Alternatively how do I downgrade?

Might want to use the search button. Or alternatively, in every BB specific thread, there is an updated OS link. And in each of those, there has been explicit instructions on how to do it.

This is probably why nobody replied to this. The answers are all over the place, takes a couple of seconds to find in the threads.

Thanks indeed Rifleman. Sincerely appreciate the response. I was actually keen that I get responses to the probelems I posted. Upgrade/dwongrade was the secondary question

Since you answered it, here is the specific reason I asked. If I have installed the OS on the Laptop and used the Desktop manager to upgrade, whay process do I follow to downgrade? Do I un install the OS from laptop and re-install and connect the BB.

Another additional question. If I have 4.5 and want to re-install the same using desktop manager, what steps do I follow?

All the instructions I have seen are about installing the OS file to laptop and invoking loader after connecting BB. However, if the OS is the same, it does not initialize any re-installation. How do I do that? Thanks a zillion in advance for your help.

I upgraded my 8320 to v4.5.0.81 to fix what I thought was a SMS text issue. When I would use ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter to backup my device, it only showed SMS messages that I sent and none that were received.
I thought upgrading to the 4.5 version would fix this but it didn't. AND... my custom background does not show up when I receive or make a call, only when it's in standby mode.

I hope someone has an idea how I can fix this. PM me if needed.

Wirelessly posted

You can find all the help you need by doing a search here at this forum! You could not pay me to go back to OS 4.2. I had this BB for over a year when I upgraded, it was like getting a brand new BB!
Best of luck!

I agree, there are no solid reasons for you to go backwards. It would be like you owning a prius hybrid for the gas mileage and trading it in for a corvette. 4.5 is great, and just like any new technology there are always going to be tiny little things that you have to live with in order to move forward. Back everything up, wipe it clean and reinstall the latest OS for your curve and see if this solves your issues. Put some MP3's on your phone, I have a system of the down song on as one of my ringers and it scares the hell out of me it's so loud.

Well, it doesn't matter now anyway.... after trying to do this, I now get a Error 507.
I'll try installing the new OS and see what I get. I just hope (fingers crossed) it will boot.

After several attempts to restore v4.2 and failing, I've decided to go with v4.5.
Went 2 days without my BB; had to use a old Nokia I had.

Glad I had a spare device.
