Default Any problems worth knowing about with 8300?

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently gotten the 8800 and I'm particularly happy with it - would not trade it for the 8300 b/c i like the GPS so much. But now my wife wants one - she doesnt care about GPS, but she likes the camera. But if there's problems, we may hold off.

I've heard memory is an issue - too little free memory.
Lag time/delays when starting apps for some people seems to be an issue.
Website display issues - not as clean as the 8800 browser?

Any other general problems to help us decide?

Thanks.

Default No issues here!

It may be a preferrence thing more than real issues.
I have no issues whatsoever, I am very happy with my 8300 which I got today. No lag, the trackball works as it should. Yes, less memory, that has not affected me however. For storage, its adviseable to use a Micro SD.

Above all, its sexy, compact, the build is excellent and still very functional.
The standard stereo headset input is another plus...bye bye iPod!
What killed me about the 8800 was the squeaking, I could just not live with it...did not need the GPS, my car has it.

I love the standard headphone jack and I like the keyboard over the 8800. It is built very tight and solid too.

People that claimed the build quality is better were right. The 8300 is one of the more solid handhelds I have used. The keyboard is really nice and crisp. Headphone and speaker phone is nice, good volume. No memory problems or lagging. Good job RIM!

I'll take June 22 for $20. Anyone else in on the "back to my 8700" pool?

Unfortunately, my contract doesn't end until December. I just might buy an unlocked one though, but I'll wait it out for 3 months and see.

I found the curve is REALLY great, and the annoyances are all live-able with and are small, heres my list:

The media player cant handle playlists

The media player does NOT give bluetooth stereo output when playing videos (music works)

bluetooth stereo headset cannot connect properly if media player is left on in the backround. u must close it after

The volume buttons are a bit stiff and wobbly

The media card slot really needs to be outside the case

The bottom logo piece looks ugly (IMO)

When playing music via blutooth, the rest of the phone is noticeably slower

Calendar doesnt synch with outlook properly (but found a solution now by resending service books)

I miss the middle convenience key of the 8700

The ALT and ENTER keys should be a bit bigger rather than the num and caps keys (made bigger for ascethetics only)

the today screen (vodafone) is great, but it would be nice to turn off the today part if I wished

Shame GPS wasnt on it. but I have a tiny bluetooth one that fits on my keyring, size of a lipstick, so I really have GPS whenever I want.

any advice or comments?

Nice list - I will echo those comments.

what bugs me most

1. Volume keys are really tough to push - seems to be global
2. Volume in earpiece during calls is mediocre
3. Out of the box I had immediate "squeak" between the volume and camera buttons on the side
4. I have a problem with media player recognizing all my mp3's but this may be operator error - I just copied them to my micrSD -- some were recognized but a bunch weren't.

In my opinion it is too early to judge build quality on this device. Give it another week to see what complaints surface.

I use the small Holux GPSlim 240 as a handy keyring GPS bluetooth, its nice and small.

it has a small hole for a lanyard or I use a small keyring loop in that hole
and the charging port is the same type as the BB

One of my threads "Blackberry Curve Wallpapers" got moved to a generic "Media" topic, which makes no sense since it's not a generic topic, the thread is for wallpapers sized to the curve only...

With that being said, I'd like this topic removed as redundant with like 15 others already in this forum... or moved as it's general blackberry problem discussion, not specific to the curve (hey, same thing they moved mine for)

Seems the purpose of a forum is open communication... however the moderators are so aggressive it negates the point of a forum in many cases.

I will take that $20 and up you $40.

I gave my beloved 8700 to my assistant field supervisor! He does not know about the 8300 and it was replacing a 8700 that looked like it was run over!

You're my bellwether to indicate whether these devices are going to be worth hanging onto....

The extra money you spend doing that blows the "tmobile is cheaper" argument out of the water doesnt it? Unless of course you stick with tmobile for other reasons.

You don't have to stay on the BBF. The mods (they are volunteers by the way) do an awesome job.

I will take that $20 and up you $100 and I'm dead serious.

My only complaints with my 8300 Curve are:

1) Keyboard - It's the greatest
2) Phone volume, clarity and connection - Stellar
3) Build quality - nearly as good as my Rolex
4) Display - world class just like my 8800- Wonderful
5) Speed and Stability - Excellent
6) Email - It's a BB and it doesn't get any better than that.

Hmmm, as I reflect back on the list it looks more like list of positive traits...

Wow, now what? I have nothing to complain about?

I'll take back....my earlier bet: I'll take the $20 and up you $200......

Before you jot this down on your cons list make sure you understand why or why it isn't a concern. Having less memory available out of the box isn't a problem in and of itself. BB's don't need space in the same way that a PC does. The added software on the 8300 definitely reduces the amount of free space. Is the tradeoff worth it? That's a personal judgement call. You really shouldn't be storing pics, videos and music on the system memory anyway...

In general, make sure that you're aware whether or not cons that others list are personal preferences or not and make sure that you check into those preference-based items on a first hand basis.
