Yes, you can.

Is the internet that you can see without a data plan limited, or can you see pretty much every site??
Sorry for all the questions....just trying to make sure before I take the plunge!

20 bucks a month? wtf! That is BS. I'm gonna be spending almost 100 bucks a month for a 300 minute plan with the internet, basic text/pix and the H@H? T-Mob is no longer the great deal I thought they'd be. Not to mention everything I've read on this site says that UMA doesn't work with 2wire routers, so I'll probably have to get the TMO router too....man...

Correct. H@H doesn't give you UMA. You get UMA automatically. H@H only gives you unlimited voice minutes over UMA at hotspots, at home, anywhere you can get a UMA connection.

I don't believe so. I believe if you find an open wifi connection, you can browse away regardless and not limited to certain sites. I could be wrong though..

I have the real ultimate question here...

Can I talk to people on the My Faves plan unlimited over UMA without the H@H plan? I mean I can talk to them over the network for free, so why not over wifi? If this is the case, then would I ever need the H@H if I only really want to be in contact with the people on My Faves while I'm on wifi or overseas?

Please note that the H@H promo pricing of $9.99 is OVER. It is now $19.99. I suspect they won't get as many bites at the new price and they'll promo price it again sometime, but one never knows... If used a lot, then even the new price would have value!

Yes you can, UMA has nothing to do with it. It goes back to the same question were if you don't have H@H, you default back to your plan minutes deduction. If your plan has my faves, then you will get those free regardless of UMA or over the network.

Answering my own question from a while back in this thread for anyone that's interested, tethering to my laptop to the tmo8310 at the local Starbucks resulted in a Speakeasy bandwidth speed tests of 400 kbps down and 600 kbps up. Darn respectable.

That's why I am thinking of leaving Blackberry world and go to the Windows world if I can not use the Blackberry 8320 Curve at Starbucks using HotSpots without paying extra for it.

I might as well get a Windows phone like the Kaiser that is coming out at the end of October. Than I only have to pay $19.99 and it already comes with HotSpots.
I am not sure if I am having a lucky mistake but I thought I would mention it to everyone. My wife has the promotional $9.99 h@h plan and I have the new curve without it. I did add the data plan and the email plan for a total of $19.99 a month though. I have noticed that my curve runs on wifi on all hot spots, T Mobile or not, without subscribing to the h@h plan.

In our first month of having both phones and this plan we only used 109 minutes of the 600 and over 1200 minutes of the wifi minutes which are free.We were paying $99 a month for for our regular plan, but with h@h we went down to a $49 600 minute plan, with the additional $9.99 for h@h, and the $19.99 for my data and email plan, we are still saving $20 a month and not coming remotely close using more minutes then the allotted 600 minutes. Seems to me that this entire plan is well worth the money, especially with the Curve.

Above comment was in reference to BT'ing a laptop to Curve at a Starbucks to get Internet connection via the H@H connection on the Curve.

Might I ask how you did this? I tried this and can't connect. The only way I can connect is via GPRS. I was at a Starbucks, turned off the radio and couldn't connect via their wifi...but my phone was connected.

I have found tethering instructions for GPRS, EDGE, or UMTS but how do I tether using @home or public wifi?

Thanks in advance.

Um...maybe I'm not completely getting this here but....if you have @home or are on a public wifi couldn't you just connect your computer to that wifi?

Yes true you can do that too, this is quite funny or maybe stupid but I have a Laptop which does not have wireless network card but I do have USB 2.0. If there was a way to configure tethering like a poster has mentioned then it would be ideal for me.

How is it that the T-Mobile 8320 Curve get access at T-Mobile HotSpots (i.e. Starbucks)?

Is there a way to 'copy' the configuration baked into the Curve and use it on a laptop to get direct internet data access?
