Is it just me, or did we lose full screen with 3,0,2? GPS works fine.

I asked this question on the other Google GPS thread.....and will ask again or state this again.....I downloaded the new Google program, and don't see what it does over the other. And, I don't see what the earlier program did that was so special to begin with.

just downloaded 3.0.2... GPS works for me! woohoo.

I'm at work however... inside a building surrounded by buildings... so... it works but not super accurately at the moment. I'm going to try it when I get home and will see how accurate it can get.

EDIT:

Scott, It's not that Google Maps did anything "special" before... it's just that it's... well... Google Maps on the Blackberry. That's great in and of itself. The newest version simply takes advantage of GPS location. So it's now much more accurate in giving directions (when choosing "give direction from my location").

I haven't played with it much at all... so I'm not sure what else the newer version offers over the old... but... hope that answers your question.

Google was not the issue. Google Maps with GPS has always worked on my 9530 Storm, with no subscription, etc.

Does it matter if I'm in a building, on my sprint curve it found me alot closer than it does on my storm.

Yeah, and what an amazing coicidence that Verizon unlocked the GPS just on the same day that Google released their new version! Or maybe they timed it that way, since Verizon appears to have only unlocked the GPS for version 3.0.2 and no prior versions (of Google Maps).

I'm at work with a kick ass connection and this is actually worse than 3.0.1. I'm at 2600 meters! Is there some setting I have to activate or something?

Help me out here, I'm trying to understand how is it that VZ kept the GPS locked for Google Maps and maybe other 3rd party apps . Just want to understand the reasoning behind it .

Thanks in Advance

Sometimes gps works. Sometimes it doesn't (had 5 and 6 meters yesterday) along with 1300 at one point. Which is all I've had today.

Default Google Mobile App Phone Number Dial Problem

Installed Google Mobile Maps on a Storm. Found a local vendor and clicked on phone number. App asked for me to continue or exit. There was a check box not to ask the question again which I left checked. I decided to exit instead of having the phone dial. Now even though I deleted the app in the Storm Options section and rebooted. re-installed the app, nothing happens when I click on a map obtained phone number. The app will not have the phone dial the number.

You'd have to ask JSanders that. He is the source of the info that VZW has (had?) the GPS locked *for mapping* [sic] to only VZNav and Blackberry Maps, and that "Google was not the issue".

Are you indoors? GPS needs to be able to "see" multiple satellites in order to get a position. The GPS in the Storm *can* work indoors, but I would never just expect it to. Also, my experience with GPS in general suggests that it is more likely to be able to maintain a position if it obtained it while you were outside, than it is to be able to calculate your position if the GPS isn't turned on until you're already indoors.

It sounds to me, from what you said, like you're trying to use it indoors and it can't get a GPS position, so it's using cell tower triangulation.

Even being outdoors is no guarantee of getting a position. I have 3 Garmin GPSs and they all occasionally lose position or can't get a fix, even when I'm outside - depending on conditions like atmosphere, trees, tall buildings, nearby mountains, etc..

The issue with google maps not working was that it was trying to use the assisted gps(which is locked) and they were unaware of the unassisted gps till recently...that being said, mine takes quite awhile to find me via gps, while signalloc does it in seconds

I'm not getting GPS in Google Maps... Does VZ Nav need to be installed for Google Maps to use GPS?

It does, I agree that it is a great application. I used it while walking last night, and love how you can click on street view to see where you are. I was just questioning because some posters made it sound as if it did everything VZ Nav did and it would over take it.

You want the options to say "Location On" and location aiding "Enabled"

I would make sure you close GM before turning your gps on (hitting the red button doesn't turn off the program)
