Default 8320 without a data plan -- What you can / can't do

Please Login to Remove!

I had to cancel my data plan (long story) but in the process have been playing with the BB... Here is what I have discovered thus far... I know this might be old knowledge to many but figured I'd start a thread incase others are interested

I can connect to UMA / Wi-Fi with no issues.... I had T-Mo add what is called a BlackBerry Feature Enabler (see this thread: http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...abler-uma.html)

1. BBMessenger does not work even via Wi-Fi (you will need a data plan)

2. BBWeather will not connect and update via the Wi-Fi connection

3. PDSports will connect and update via the Wi-Fi connection

4. Beyond411 will connect and search via the Wi-Fi connection

5. I can surf the net using the Wi-Fi browser as long as I am connectd to Wi-Fi

That is all I have discovered thus far....

Kris

HEy, how did you get online using the WIFI? I just got the BB 8320 and I can't seem to do it. It appears I am receiving a WIFI connection at the house.

Go to Options >Advanced OPtions >Browser and change your default browser to WiFi Browser.

Edit: Lunk, you're taking a beating here (I know, you're used to it.) But thanks for the info!

Sorry for not being specific. I Just got the BB 8320 today and I purchased it without any data plan or Hot spot plan. I was wondering how I can use the internet using my wireless router at home? I just did what the above poster said but it won't let me connect.

Have you been able to associate (connect) your phone to your router?

Hey Lunk, do you have the GMail app installed? If so, does it work?

I find that if I disable the mobile network and only Wifi is on it refuses to run, claiming there's not network connection. I'd be interested to know if it will work when the mobile network is active but no data plan is present - this would satisfy the apps' device API call for networking but then maybe get blocked by T-Mobile at the network level. (or, it might just work)

Yup, had to email them to move my registration to the new 8320. Still no Notes/Memopad support, I've resorted to storing my notes ask Tasks with no due date. :(

I think I'll email them again today...if I bug them long enough (it's been 9mo already for crying out loud) maybe they'll code it in to just shut me up.
