Does any one would suggest not to purchase a Playbook unless its compatable with BB10 or if there is a new OS for PB in the pipeline? Please help since I will grab BB10 soon as it appears on the shelf here in UAE

The PlayBook will be updated to BB10. Timeline is not sure now but will be after the BB10 phones are released.

From what I understand BB10 is based on QNX, the same operating system which the operating system for the PlayBook is based on. I should think that there should be no issue in making BB10 devices work with the PlayBook. Obviously the operaiting system for BB10 devices will be different that that on the PlayBook, but if anything it should be easier for RIM to get the PlayBook working with BB10 devices than it did with BB OS7.1 and earlier which are based on a completely different operation system than the PlayBook OS.

If playbook is based on qnx, and Skype won't run on the PB, does that mean BB10 phones won't be able to run Skype?

That depends on whether Microsoft will be willing to negotiate an agreement with RIM and allow development of a Skype app.

Microsoft is killing Messenger, and merging it with Skype. I think there is a pretty good chance on Skype being available for as many platforms as people want.

Check out this QNX video using BB10 for video conferencing in a Bentley. Among other things.

Skype (Beta) is available in the Blackberry App Store for the Blackberry Q10.

I haven't installed it on my Blackberry Q10 since the reviews for Skype don't look promising. It will be available for the Blackberry Z10 soon. When the Playbook gets Blackberry 10, it will probably be available there as well.

Skype preview from BB world works fine on the Z10 with the 10.1 update.

Whether the PB will get BB10 remains to be seen. Somewhat controversial at the moment.

Frankly, who cares what OS is in the PlayBook? What matters is whether it does what I want. That is true for any device. Does it do what you want now, not sometime in the maybe distant future. Most likely all the companies have corporate strategies, hardware and software in development that will make whatever is on the market now obsolete, and maybe put the competition in a world of hurt.

For me, at today's price the PlayBook is a good deal today. If,by chance, something better comes along down the road and the price is right I Might replace it, just like I'd do with any other item. If an update to the PlayBook comes along so much the better.

Buy it. If you haven't already done so.

The last I heard was that the PlayBook did not sync with the Q10 or Z10 nearly as well as it does with legacy Blackberry devices. With the president of BlackBerry cool on the future of tablets, I don't think much resources are being devoted for a better bridge app for the Q10 or Z10.
I have a PlayBook, but haven't jumped yet to a BB10 device. Can anyone report from first hand experience how well BB10 devices sync with the PlayBook?

Bridge is missing a number of features still. About the only thing you can do is remotely control the PB screen including typing, touchscreen, and presenter (slides). I didn't have an older device but I hear/read lot's of moaning about the loss of functionality.

PlayBook UI feels dated, but hopefully BlackBerry 10 will come to the tablet soon.

Yes it appears that RIM has given up on the PlayBook.
Acquired a Q10 on Tuesday, and one of the first apps added was Bridge. Loved how the PlayBook worked seamlessly with my e-mails, contacts etc on my 9900.
Well the current bridge for BB10 is useless with the PlayBook. All that you get is internet access through the Q10 (always connected my PB through wifi anyway) and a read me file. Totally useless! No integration of anything worthwhile.
The only glimmer of hope is that now that they are not developing BB10 for the PlayBook, (and I suspect not doing any work on the Bridge on BB10 devices until the PlayBook was also on BB10) they will develop a real Bridge between BB10 devices and the PlayBook, (both of which are QNX based), which has the same functionality as the Bridge between OS 7.1 and lower and the PlayBook.
The move to the Q10 has significantly lessened the usefulness of the PlayBook.

Guess how useful a PlayBook is depends on how a person uses it. If it was just an extension of a person's device and you buy the newest offering certainly it is less useful. On the other hand if its' primary use was as an independent device doing what it is capable of, it is no different today than it was last week or last month.

Plus, if the Blackberry announcement can be believed, they will continue to support the PlayBook. So, they haven't "abandoned the PlayBook".

A new Bridge is out (version 3.2.0.8) which Crackberry is reporting brings "full support" to BB10 devices. I have downloaded Bridge 3.2.0.8, but haven't tested it as I don't have my Playbook with me at the moment.
Some are commenting that e-mails are not integrated, so the claim of full support may be (greatly) exaggerated.

The lack of support for the integration that we used to enjoy between the PlayBook and legacy BB devices is one of my biggest disappointments with BlackBerry. If after nine months of the launch of BB10, e-mails still are not integrated, that disappointment will remain unabated. BBM is supposed to be integrated, but 90% of my communication are e-mails, vs bbm.
